Thanks for reaching out to us. Allow me to address your concern about inactivate class in QuickBooks Online (QBO), so let me get this straightened out. 

 

For the meantime, you can inactivate Classes one at a time since inactivating it by batch is currently unavailable in QBO. I can see how this future would be helpful for you in order to delete Classes conveniently, I'd recommend sending feedback directly to our product developers for consideration in the future updates. 

 

Here's how you can send feedback:

  1. Click the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Click Next and choose Feedback under Category option.
  4. Select Save.

Let me walk you through on how to delete classes:

  1. Select the Gear icon.
  2. From Lists, select All Lists.
  3. Choose Classes.
  4. From the drop-down under the Action column, choose Delete.
  5. When asked Are you sure you want to delete this?, select Yes.

I'm only offered to "make inactive" a class. The instructions I find online talk about "deleting" a class, is there a difference? If so, why can't I see this option of deleting?

Is "making inactive" a class enough when I have to reduce my number of classes to go down to the max of 40?

The Delete option was from the old interface, and we now have replaced it to Make Inactive. You'd still be able to retrieve the class information and make it active in the future.

I am trying to re-map my COA, but for some reason QBO has marked some GL accounts and classes as "deleted" and now I can't edit these.  How can edit these "deleted" accounts?

You'll have to make the accounts active again before you can re-map your Chart of Accounts. You can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Select the Gear icon above the Action column. Then select Include inactive.
  3. Locate the account you want to use again and select Make active.
