Is there anyone who has had this happen:I am getting locked out of my clients quickbook files and am unable to reset the password. Quickbooks just shuts down.

There could be a couple of reasons why this behavior is happening, so I'd like to do some troubleshooting to isolate the issue.

 

Let's figure out if it's your company file or the QuickBooks program causing the issue:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type “File Explorer” into the search and open File Explorer.
  3. Search and find the QuickBooks.exe file. It’s usually in your QuickBooks folder.
  4. Hold down CTRL on your keyboard and double-click QuickBooks.exe. Don’t let go of CTRL until QuickBooks opens.

If the issue persists, then we can try running a repair. Here's how:

  1. Run the Install Diagnostic from the QuickBooks Tools Hub.
  2. Run a repair of your installation files.
  3. Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

Try opening the file again. Let me know how this goes for you! If you receive any error messages during the process, you can take a screenshot or let me know the details. This will help me get a better understanding of what's happening. I'll be on standby waiting for your response.

This is the error I had and some info on it:

 

 
-6000, -832
This error normally occurs when hosting is turned on or the .ND file is not working properly

 

When I do the first step it lists all of my versions of quickbooks and I chose the 2018 version did ctrl and double clicked - it is trying to reinstall the program.  What am I doing wrong?

Also, when I tried to open the Quickbooks Tool Hub - it said something needed to be added, so I pressed install.  Then I had this error from the quickbooks tool hub - installshield wizard

Theinstallation of Microsoft Visual C++2013 Redistributable Package (x86) appears to have failed.  Do  you want to continue the installation. Yes or no

You might see Error -6000,-83 when you open, restore, or back up your company files. Don't worry, I'm providing you with a Community Article that gives reasons why you're seeing this behavior and guides you on how to resolve that specific error message: How to fix Error 6000,-83.

 

For the second part, with the QuickBooks Tool Hub, the error message is resulting from your Windows components needing to be repaired. The troubleshooting links below should be performed by an IT professional, confident Windows user, or working with the experts from Microsoft support:

Quickbooks just old me that my files are corrupted and it would be $6,000 to fix them

One file will not need as much as $6,000 to get fixed, @gofigure827.

I did contact support directly and the person who called me back said it would be $6,000
