Hi vhess!

I removed your email address for security reasons.

Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online is done within the QuickBooks Desktop interface. For a faster transfer, you can create a QBO company first. You can select a plan here.

Due to the differences in the platforms, there are certain limitations when converting your file. Please check this out for your reference: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

When you're ready, please follow the steps to convert your company file in this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

You can always go back to this thread if you have questions.

Well, my problem is that when I look for the company, it isn't listed so I can't export it to QBO.  I don't see alternatives.  I am on a current version (I am a Pro advisor) and using windows 10 all my programs are updated.  I have moved other clients to QBO - don't know why this one won't show up?  Any ideas?

Have you utilize Windows Explorer to find any QBW, QBB, and QBM files in your machine?

I can help you sort this out, @lillian8221.

Let's first run the verify and rebuild utility tool. This way, we can isolate any data damage to your QuickBooks Desktop company file that may have caused the missing company file during the exporting process.

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Choose Verify Data.
  4. You may get any of these results:
    • "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," no further action is needed.
    • A specific error message, there may already be an article for it. Try searching for it in our QuickBooks Desktop support site for specific instructions.
    • "Your data has lost integrity," indicates there is data damage in the file.  Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data to correct the problem.
  5. Click the File menu.
  6. Pick Utilities.
  7. Choose Rebuild Data.
  8. Click OK if you receive a prompt to backup your company file.
    • Your computer may display the message QuickBooks is not responding to. However, as long as you can see your mouse cursor to move, Rebuild is still ongoing. Wait for it to complete.
  9. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed and process the next troubleshooting steps.

Once completed, let's close your QuickBooks Desktop and open it again. Now, we can start the exporting process again. Here's how:

  1. Review some critical information before converting your file.
    • You must be logged as the administrator.
    • Turnoff multi-user access.
      1. Click File.
      2. Choose Utilities.
      3. Select Host Multi-User Access.
      4. Click Stop Hosting Multi-User Access to turn it off.
    • Create a back-up copy of your company file.
  2. Export your QuickBooks Desktop company data.
    1. Open your company file.
    2. Click Company from the menu tab.
    3. Choose Export Company to QuickBooks Online.
    4. If you don’t see the Export button, update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version.
  3. Connect to QuickBooks Online and import your data.
    1. Click the Start your export button.
    2. Log in using your QuickBooks Online username and password.
    3. If you have inventory, choose how would you like to be transferred to QuickBooks Online.
    4. Click Continue.
    5. If you have multiple QuickBooks Online account, choose where you want to transfer your QuickBooks Desktop file.
    6. Select OK, got it!

Once done, you can follow the steps in this article to export your data from QuickBooks Desktop to the online version: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, I've added these articles as an additional reference in learning more ways of handling your QuickBooks data:

You can always get back to me if you need more help with QuickBooks and its exporting processes. I'd be glad to help.

Thanks for joining us today, @MIKEMOGLE.

I have some information about running your QuickBooks Desktop file on a cloud. With Intuit Hosting Program, you can access your file securely, anywhere, and anytime.

First, you'll need to sign-up for the authorized third-party hosting providers. Please refer to this article for the lists: What hosting providers are authorized by Intuit?

Once you already have the hosting app, consult your hosting service provide to help you with the setup and installation. If you're using the Standard Hosting Providers, you'll need to send an email to Intuit Hosting Manager to request and email the Request for Information (RFI) document at hostinginfo@intuit.com. For more information, check out this guide: Standard Hosting Program.

I'm also attaching these links below in case you'll need additional resources about the hosting program.

Feel welcome to message me anytime if you have other questions or concerns. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a lovely day ahead.

@MIKEMOGLE

Define "combine". Do you need to migrate your QB Desktop file to QB Online or else? You may deploy a private cloud on your premise or put your license and company file(s) on a QB cloud hosting.
