My customers appear to be on a recurring template. I am not able to make them inactive because of this template.
How do I get them off of the recurring template so I can make them inactive?
go to recurring transactions, edit the template

Let me take care of your concern so you can make your customer inactive successfully.
To start with, you have to delete the recurring template created to make the customer inactive. Or, update the name from the recurring template window.
Here's how to delete the template:
Once completed, you can now seamlessly inactivate your customer by clicking on the Make inactive tab under the Customer information window.
