Mfg. chart of accounts

I've got some insights to share with you about accessing manufacturing from your chart of accounts, @resourcewest.

The option to view the Chart of Accounts specific for Manufacturing ahead of time is unavailable. You'll have to first set up the account. Otherwise, you'll only see the default accounts set up in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me walk you through adding an account on your COA:

  1. Click on Settings ⚙ and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Hit New to add a new account.
  3. From the Account window, choose the Account Type ▼ dropdown. Then select an account type. Note: if you see the New category window instead of the Account window, you’re creating a subaccount. If you need to create a new parent account, switch to accountant view.
  4. From the Detail Type ▼ dropdown, choose the detail type that best fits the transactions you want to track. Know more about detail types.
  5. Enter your new account a name.
  6. Enter a description.
  7. If this is a sub-account of an existing account, click on Is sub-account and then type in the parent account. Know more about parent accounts and subaccounts.
  8. Now let's ensure the account in QuickBooks matches your real-life bank or credit card account. Select when you want to start tracking your finances. From the Balance field, fill in the amount in the account, and determine the as of date. Fill in today's date if you want to start tracking immediately.
  9. Once done, click on Save and Close.

Let me also add these helpful guides to learn more on how to manage your COA:
