Missing company file

I switched to a new 2020 MacBook Pro running Catalina.  I tried to open my company file, the only place it appeared was in "recents"  and got the following:

The document “SGP LLC.qb2019” could not be opened. The file doesn’t exist.

I've found some of my files in the cloud, but they are all grayed out.  Please help!  I can't even imagine trying to recreate my company.

Thanks in advance.

Missing company file

Hi there, Shortgirl06.

Let me help to get this sorted out so you can open your company file successfully and get back to your business right away.

The company backup may haven't synced completely, thus it was grayed out. You'll need to be sure to finish the process. However, if you're still getting the same issue, I'd recommend consulting our QuickBooks Mac Care Team. There they can check your account and help you verify what's causing this odd behavior with your iCloud.

Here's how you can get them:
  1. Open this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Click on the Company File menu.
  4. Scroll-down and click either Get Phone Number.
On the other hand, the company file you're trying to open may be corrupted. I suggest creating a backup file manually from your previous QuickBooks Desktop and save it locally. This way, you're able to make sure that you can successfully restore it to recreate your company file.

Here's how:
  1. From the File menu, select Back Up.
  2. On the following dialog window, select the folder where you want to store your backup file (.dmg). NOTE: It's a good idea to save backups somewhere other than your main local drive in case of a system failure.
  3. If you have a file hosting service (such as DropBox), flash drive, or other removable media, you may want to select it here.
  4. When you have chosen, click Start Backup. The name of the backup will be your QuickBooks filename with the date and time the backup completed.

For additional information, you can click this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file. This also provides steps on how to automatically backups your company file.

Once done, you can now restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. You can click this article to see the detailed steps: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please refer to this article on how to fix minor data issues with your company file: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success.

Missing company file

I was able to find the company from a backup thumb drive and was able to open it.  However, the program will not let me back up.  I get the following:

Another user has deleted the company file. QuickBooks must close the company file.

There is no other user!

Opening Company doesn't work, I can only open the file from Recent.  My invoices and check register are intact.  HOWEVER: I cannot backup or save to my desktop.

When I try to Save For Accountant, it requests that I verify for WINDOWS.  I have no idea where that came from.

There is some type of corruption going on with the file or program.  I tried using Chat but there is no way I can get all of these problems into the tiny chat window with limited characters.

I was able to print the general ledger from 2017 through today...just in case.

Once again - please help!

More help please!

Missing company file

Thanks for getting back to us, @Shortgirl06.

I appreciate you for going through the steps provided by my colleague above. Let’s reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to isolate this.

Reinstalling your QBDT for Mac software also optimizes the performance of the program. Let me guide you how.

  1. Ready your QBDT file or Installation CD and license number.
  2. Close the program.
  3. Go to the Finder menu and select the Applications.
  4. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash icon.

Then remove QuickBooks PLSIT files. To remove the user PLIST:

  1. Go to the Finder menu.
  2. Hold down the Option key, then select Library.
  3. Open the Preferences folder.
  4. Find PLIST files that contains com.intuit.QuickBooks20XX, then move them to the Trash.
  5. Then empty the trash.

To remove System PLIST:

  1. From a new Finder window, open the Macintosh HD.
  2. Go to Library, then Preferences folder.
  3. Find PLIST files that contains com.intuit.QuickBooks20XX, then move them to the Trash.
  4. Then empty the trash.

You can also check this article for more details in reinstalling your QBDT for Mac: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using a clean install.

You can learn more about managing your QBDT for Mac by visiting this link: User guide for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with your QDBT for Mac. I’m more than happy to help you.

Missing company file

I'm sorry I'm being a pain, but I can't find anything that say PLIST for intuit.  To begin, the only way I can locate Library is through "Harriet" in the finder:

When I hold down the option key and click on Library then go to Preferences, this is what I see:

I don't see how to find PLIST using this.  So I tried just searching for com.intuit.QuickBooks2019 and what I found was this:

Clicking on there 2019 folders I find this:

I cannot find PLIST in any if these drop downs.  Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but after trying for hours, I'm getting nowhere.

Thanks for your patience.
