then open your QB Desktop company file. Go to File > Utilities > Copy Company File For QuickBooks Online to proceed. If you are using QBD 2017 or older, utilize the trial license of QBD 2021 to convert your file and migrate to QB Online.

Which version of Quickbooks are you using? You will need QB 2018 or higher.

This is a joke - it doesn't work. Its not seamless. Ive been on support calls for 2 days and i am getting different levels of help and completely different answers. Most recently told, i might just as well start over on QB online.

The exporting to online sits and thinks for hours with no results. My Targets are less than 10K.

We didn’t intend to make you feel that way, @JakefromIowa. I’ll share with you some information about transferring data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

May I ask if you’re using the method wherein you import .OE.QBW files? If so, I’d like to let you know that we no longer use this due to conversion errors and data damage.

Please keep in mind to carefully select the QBDT transactions, lists, or data. This way, you can avoid duplicate entries in your QBO file.

Let’s start with ensuring the program is running with the latest features and fixes. You also need to condense your QBDT file if it’s too big to export. Next, review this link to see what data moves from QBDT to QBO.

After that, sign in as the admin to the company file to redo the migrating process. I’ll show you how:

  1. Go to the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Click Start your export.
  3. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  4. Select Choose online company, and choose the QuickBooks Online company you want to replace with your company file.
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. If you track inventory in QuickBooks Desktop:
  7. Enter Agree in the text field, then select Replace.
  8. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then tap Replace.

However, if the error you’re experiencing isn’t found on the article, would you mind describing it a bit more? You can also leave a reply below with a screenshot to be specific. These information would be of great help, so I can assist you further.

If you have encountered any errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, you can refer to this article to for the resolutions.
