Need to change where my QB is saved on hard drive

There are a couple of ways to accomplish this

1, drag and drop of your *.qbw file although if you have attachments they are in a separate file and you could lose them

2. create a backup to the destination drive, then restore from the destination drive

3. File>Create Copy

Need to change where my QB is saved on hard drive

I'll share with you the additional steps to change the location where you save your QuickBooks file, @sleavitt. Aside from the three options provided by john-pero above, you can simply copy and paste your entire QuickBooks folder to a different hard drive. I'm here to guide you how.

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
  2. Choose the company file you want to move.
  3. To open the Product Information window, press F2 (or Ctrl+1).
  4. Look in the File Information section. It helps you determine where your company file is saved on your hard drive.
  5. Open the Windows Start menu.
  6. Select File Explorer.
  7. Locate the folder that has your company file.
  8. Right-click the folder and choose Copy.
  9. Open the external device you'll use to move the file.
  10. Hit Paste.

For detailed instructions, see the Alternative: Move your entire QuickBooks data folder section through this article: Move Your Company Files. This link also provides you steps about moving your company files to another computer or location on the same computer. Aside from that, you'll find more details about restoring the files using Intuit Data Protect.

Once done, select Open or Restore an existing company from the File menu. Then, browse your computer for the folder you just copied to open it. From there, you can work on your next essential tasks in your company file.

I'm just a comment away if you need further assistance. Enjoy the rest of your day, @sleavitt.
