Prior month reconciliation report doesn't match what's reported when you go to reconcile an account.

Quickbooks Online would not let me reconcile current month because it said there was a transaction that was deleted in the prior month.

I fixed the deleted transaction in the prior month and Quickbooks let me successfully reconcile the current month.

But, when I go to Reports -> Reconciliation Reports, I see the prior month, under the Changes column, still showing the amount I fixed.  Shouldn't this be zero as with all the other months?

Hi abid,

We all want to have a perfect reconciliation report, and we can achieve that in this case. Let me shed light on why your report did not update, and then we'll create a fresh one later on.

Recreating a deleted transaction and marking it as reconciled will fix your reconciliation balance. However, this will not take it from the Changes section of the reconciliation report. The reason for this is QuickBooks treats the deleted transaction as unique from its replacement, even if they have the same details. Among other changes, only the deleted ones will stick to the report.

If you'd like to have an updated report, you can un-reconcile and re-reconcile your transactions in the previous month. This will give you a new report, but will not delete the old one.

You can always go back to this thread if you have additional questions with your reconciliation.

I see, thank you.  So there's no way to be made aware that someone might have done something on past transactions that has broken reconciliation except for the error one gets when starting a new reconciliation.

Hello, @abid.

The only way that you can see any edits or changes, is by going through the Audit log to see the changes that were made. Check out our guide on the Audit Log to look for changed made in your account.

That's correct, there isn't currently a report that will make you aware of changed made to past reconciliations, only the error message you see when creating a new one. Checking out the audit log could prevent another mishap.

These few easy steps will have you getting back to business. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach back out.
