Activating QB Pro issues

I am working with a company that uses QB Pro 2018.  They bought the original QB from Staples (maybe 2011 or so) and have updated & upgraded online thru QB over the years to the 2018 version.  We only have it on one computer in our office.

 

Now I need to work on it at my own house and QB/Intuit won't activate the program under our license key. 

They say that the company and person listed are not the same information that I am providing, but we are the only ones who have had this QB program since new.

 

They kept saying we purchased a pirated version of the program and told me that we need to go back to whom we purchased the software and get a refund.   I think it would be hard to go back to Staples and QB and tell them that we want a refund for all the different versions we've owned because they are selling us pirated software!  That is ridiculous.

 

QB states that you can have it installed/activated on 3 computers.  Has that changed?

 

Is there a problem when someone upgrades to a newer version from an older license key where you can't install/activate it on 3 computers?

Do you have any access to your CAMPS? Did you find your license code in there?

I know my license key and product code.  I pressed F2 when I opened the program in the office.

Product Info is not enough. You have to open your CAMPS and find the code in there. Company may recognise you as the license owner if you have access to CAMPS as the primary contact.

Based on the information, it looks like the license number and product information entered is from your own QuickBooks. Make sure to use your client’s product information to seamlessly activate the desktop program.


I also suggest contacting your client and inform them to add your name as the admin. This is to ensure you will not have any issues verifying the account and performing any transactions with our support team.


For your other concerns, you can install QuickBooks on different computers. The multi-user feature allows other users to access the software on the same company file at the same time.

I did contact them and ask that my name is added to the authorized list.  The issue is that when she called QB told her that she did not give the correct company name or authorized person and she is the owner of the business and the primary person given when it was activated.

 

After 45 minutes of "Ben" from QB customer service  telling her that she bought pirated software from Staples and Intuit/QB, she gave up.

 

I am sure it is QB just gouging people for their software.

I don't know what else to tell them that we are the authorized owners and users of this QB software purchased at Staples all those years ago and then upgraded thru QB to be able to get a validation code to be able to put together the business information for tax preparation.

 

So frustrating.

I understand this is a frustrating situation not being able to activate and use QuickBooks. I'd recommend reaching out to our Desktop Support again if they can provide to whom the license was activated. This way, you can contact this person and let him/her transfer it under your name.

 

However, if they can't provide you with this information, you can attempt using a Migrator Tool to automatically download, install and activate QuickBooks. You can check this article for the outlined steps: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer.

I know whom the license was activated and the name of the company.  When I tell that to the QB customer service for validation, they say the name of the company and person are not what I said.  They would not tell me what that information is.  I have talked to the owner (should be name for activation), owner's husband (one who purchased the software from Staples) and bookkeeper (one who installed and setup the QBs with the husband).  They all say it's the owner's name and company name that should be on the account.  Yet, when I give them the license key to look up the account, they say it is a different company and name.  QB is wrong and we can't change it.  Even the one whose name should be on the account as the primary and her husband spoke to QB and QB said they did not give them the correct name or company info.  QB won't do anything to correct it because they don't know the wrong info that is on their QB account to update, correct and/or add new employees to be able to work with the company books.

 

I am working with the original owners of the QB software to work on their business information that they create using this very QB software so I find it strange that someone else is on their license/account.  I did have the owners call and QB customer service does not help.

 

I have downloaded the same QB version (QB Pro 2018) and have entered the license key and product code from the software on the office computer.  After opening QBPro2018, I click on Register Now and Begin Activation.  It does it's thing, then it says to contact support to complete activation.  That is where it stales.  QB customer service won't provide a validation code to complete it.  

 

Migrate won't work.  We want it on both computers and they are not in the same office.

I don't know CAMPS.

 

Can you explain further?

 

I can text with the bookkeeper on the QB computer at the office if it is within the QB software.

Since the subscription was purchased through the retail store, there are cases that the licensed number is registered to a different name. Logging in to the Customer Account Maintenance Portal (CAMPs) helps you review your QuickBooks account.

 

Through CAMPs, you can manage your products and subscriptions, update your contact and billing information, view order and payment history, manage authorized users and more in on place.

 

To sign in to CAMPs:

 

  1. Go to camps.intuit.com
  2. Sign in with your Intuit Account information. This could be different from what you use to sign in to your company file.
  3. If you see multiple products to choose from, select QuickBooks Desktop to go to CAMPs.
