Can I add the Class to the Customer Balance Detail report in QB Online. Under "customize" I cannot find "Class" as an option. This info is important in that report for us

Hello, Niklas1. I'd be more than happy to share some information about how classes can be used.

When using our Plus or Advanced plans in QuickBooks Online, reports can be run by class. Here's a list of the types which work with this feature:

  • Sales by Class Detail
  • Sales by Class Summary
  • Purchases by Class detail
  • Profit and Loss by Class

Currently, the Customer Balance Detail report doesn't have this ability. I understand you're saying it would be helpful for your business and have submitted feedback to our product development team so that it's considered in future updates.

I've included a few resources below which may come in handy moving forward:

Feel welcome to respond here anytime if you have any other questions. I'll be able to help. Have a great day!

Dear @ZackE ,

thank you for the rapid feedback. However, I do not want to run the customer balance detail by class. Instead I just want to add the class to the output of the report. The report itself should still be run by customer.

So would it be possible to add the class to the "Customize" abilities, so that we can see the classes of each transaction related to the customer?

Best regards

Niklas

Good morning, Niklas1.

Thanks for following up on this thread. I'd like to provide some info about adding Class to the Customer Balance Detail Report in QuickBooks Online.

First, access the report as you normally would, then:

1. Click the small gear icon in the top right corner of the actual report, beside the email, print, and export options.

2. Select Show more at the bottom of the Change columns section.

3. Check the box to include Class.

4. Click anywhere outside of the settings window to regenerate the report.

Once you've completed these steps, you'll have a Class column added to the report to display the class for each customer and transaction.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help.

Dear @MorganB ,

thank you for your feedback. The problem is that I do not have the Class option there. See attached screenshot. We are using QB Plus and we assumed to have this feature.

Best regards

Thanks for letting me know, Niklas1.

I want to make sure you're able to get that Class column added.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I recommend switching to an incognito window in your browser. This type of window doesn't save browsing data and allows you to work with a clean slate. Here's how to to do this with keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome - press CTRL+SHIFT+N.
  • Mozilla Firefox - press CTRL+SHIFT+P
  • Microsoft Edge - press CTRL+SHIFT+P.
  • Safari - press Command+Shift+N.

If you're able to view the Class option in the incognito window, you can return to your normal browser and clear the cache to get rid of older stored data.

Let me know how things look after giving this a try.

Dear @MorganB ,

thank you again for the steps provided. However, this does as well not release the Class option for me. So it is not showing in the browser nor in the desktop application for QBO.

We urgently need this...

Best regards

Hello @Niklas1,

Welcome to the QuickBooks family. Allow me to step in and share some clarification about the report in QuickBooks Online.

When creating sales transactions, you can add classes to each product or service that you enter from the line items (see screenshot below). That said, in a single invoice, it may contain one or more classes on it.

Since the Customer Balance Detail report only shows transactions and not the item details, adding the Class column is unavailable. For now, you can utilize other reports available in the system to acquire the data you need.

I've also included some articles in case you need some ideas about customizing reports, as well as tracking your business cash flow:

So, the executive summary is that unfortunately we can not ID class in the Customer Balance detail Report,  correct?

An excel solution would have to me built with your customer balance detail report in one sheet and a Sales by customer or profit and loss by class (income detail) and a Lookup formula to grab the class from the second sheet and put it in the first sheet.

Anyone has another suggestion?

Hello ThirdTermLearning!

I understand that you wanted to add a Class column to the Customer Balance Detail report. Let me help you with it.

There are reports in QuickBooks Online that have a Class column such as the Sales by Customer Detail and Sales by Class Detail report. You're right. Currently, we're unable to add it to the Customer Balance Detail report.

You'll want to export a report that has a Class column and the Customer Balance Detail report to an Excel file. From there, you can merge them and create the report you need.

Also, I suggest you send feedback to our engineers about adding the Class column to other reports. Select Feedback from the Gear icon.

I added these links to learn more on how to run reports by class and how to customize reports:

Lastly, here are the articles you can check if you need a list of available reports and how to export them and other data:
