Join nowQB2014 Pro. When I try to open my company file, it asks for a password. I enter the password and it rejects it. I know the password is correct because I keep them documented and date-coded.
I also just gave my file to my accountant ( only a copy ... so my desktop file stays clean.) Suddenly, this ridiculous p/w requirement has got my accounting shut down.
It says I have to log in as Administrator to proceed. There is no way to do this. Password is the only option in the window. The other solutions I've seen say to click on "Company" in the tool bar. Except none of those functions are active since I can't even log in to my company. Only "File" and "Help" are active and "Help" just crashes.
I've tried d/ling the password reset app, but the website doesn't recognize my info or valid license number.
Welcome and thanks for dropping by the Community, @Fatcatfarm.
Since you already tried the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and the issue persists, try to reset it inside the program. This can be done by clicking on the I forgot my password.

I tried that and it tells me it can't complete the operation and to check my internet connection. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. Since I can't open QB beyond the login screen, I can't investigate QB preferences or other items that might prevent it from connecting.
I did run an update. Although it really didn't update much since it normally does so automatically.
So basically, I'm stuck with the login window and it won't communicate or run any other process than a request for a password.
In the meantime, I will run the "Forgot password" scenario again since I have revamped my online information. Although, if it's not going to connect, I don't know how that will help. But, it's a step to try.
As for last resort, contact and ask Intuit Data Service to remove the password. Otherwise, you have to purchase a 3rd party password removal service.
So that no more time is expended on this post, I will tell you that ... "magically" ... my password has now been accepted.
I haven't tried anything now for a day or so. Used exact same password that it has always been and that has been tried numerous times. Yes, I know it is case sensitive. For whatever reason, my QB decided to open. I immediately changed the password and, as always, I documented it so there is never a mistake about it. I sure hope QB eliminates this stupid idea of requiring a password whether a user wants it or not. Even my accountant wasted time having to contact me because the file wouldn't open without it. Apparently they had no trouble opening the file with my password that DIDN'T work for ME ... until today.
QB ELIMINATE THIS STUPID ITEM.
