Safely move company file

Somehow my Company File for my business got moved to my flash drive where I normally back up my data.  It runs ok from the flash drive but I want to get it back into the Quickbooks\Company Files\ folder on my hard drive.  How can I do that safely?  If I copy and paste the lastest saved company file from the flash drive to the \Intuit\Quickbooks\Company Files\ folder, do I need to transfer any other files with it?

Let's restore your company file, cfcbinc.

After you go to File, you can click on Open or Restore Company. Then, you'll have an option to restore a backup copy in the next window. Please check out the detailed steps in this article: Restore a Backup of Your Company File.

Feel free to share some news after restoring your file. We're just around to help.

Let’s get this working for you, @cfcbinc.

To restore your company file, here’s how:

  1. Open QuickBooks in your computer.
  2. In the No Company Open window, click Open or Restore an existing company. Slide2.GIF
  3. Choose Restore a portable file.
  4. Click NextSlide1.GIF
  5. Locate the drive where you stored your company file.
  6. Click Open.
  7. In the Where do you want to restore the file window, select Next.
  8. Choose the specific drive where you want to save your working company file.
  9. Click Save.

If you’re still unable to restore your company file on your end,  I’d recommend reaching out to our Technical Support Team. A specialist will be able to further check on QuickBooks via secured remote access.

Here’s how you can reach them:

  1. Visit:  https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose the QuickBooks Product.
  3. Select your QuickBooks Desktop version.
  4. On the Contact Us page, select a topic.
  5. Click on Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

Always feel free to click the Reply button if you have other questions about opening your QuickBooks company file. I’m always here to help.

Hi amaal-maher,

In QuickBooks Online, we automatically back up your data. We update your company files every time changes happen. That said, we cannot run a back up to your previous data. Please check out here to get more details.

Also, you can only change the home currency in QBO if multi-currency is not yet turned on. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings under Your Company.
  3. Select Advanced on the left side.
  4. In the Currency section, select the currency you want to change.
  5. Then, Save and Done.

If it's already activated, you can no longer change your home currency. You can export your data and create a new account to move your files.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions with QuickBooks Online.
