How can I downgrade from Essentials Subscription to Simple start package before the trial ends?

When downgrading your subscription, there are some functions that will prevent you from doing it. I have here an article that you might want to check. Downgrade stoppers and how to fix them.

 

Here's how to downgrade your subscription:

  1. Go to this link: https://c70.qbo.intuit.com/app/changeplan. In this page,  shows your current plan and the available plans to downgrade.
  2. Click Choose Plan under Simple Start.
  3. Review the features under your new plan, and then Next.
  4. If you've encountered a function, check the article about the downgrade stoppers.
  5. After removing the function, a confirmation page will appear. It includes the summary of your new billing details.
  6. Select Confirm, and then Sign out.

Once done, your new subscription should affect right away. Here's how to check:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Billing & Subscription tab.

You'll want to sign-in to your QucikBooks company first before clicking the link in Steps 1 in Adrian's post. It will route you to the Downgrade page, where you can choose the Simple Start plan, as shown below. 

 

 

The next page will show you the list of features that you will lose in the Simple Stat plan. The next steps are pretty self-explanatory.

 

You can check your subscription after changing your plan. Just follow Adrian's steps about checking the Billing and Subscription page.

I was logged in, yes. I have an expired essentials account and am needing to access my information to finalize my taxes. The company is dissolving so I no longer need the account after we file. I only need access for a few hours to finish. Is this something you can help me with?

You'll have read-only access to your company file for a year after the day it expired, kpgold.


If you want to make any changes, you'll have to resubscribe again. You'll be charged for another subscription fee for this. Afterward, you can continue finalizing your taxes.

 

Just a heads up, since the accounts has been expired, you can no longer file through QuickBooks. However, you can do it manually.

 

If you only want to print the taxes needed, I'll show you how:

 

  1. Click the Taxes tab,
  2. Select Payroll Tax.
  3. Under Forms, select which forms you'd like to print.

 

Take note that you'll only see the filed taxes under the Forms section.

Thanks for the responses. I do not need a new subscription. Is there a way to buy a month of the essentials package? I'm not looking to spend $430 for a year subscription that I don't need. I am filing independently so I will not use Quickbooks for that service.

Once you're on the page, you can either buy it now or try it free for 30 days. You'll get a 50% discount for three months after buying it. After three months, you'll be charged for the regular rate.

Thank you. I used the link provided to buy a month of essentials, but am still being prompted to buy a $430 yearly package in order to access my account. Am I to understand there is no way for me to pay for a months access to my expired account unless I renew for an entire year?

Purchasing an account through the website will allow you to sign up to a new company file. If you wish to resubscribe to your existing account, you have to do it from inside QuickBooks or your company file.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Open your expired company file.
  2. Go to Gear icon, then select Account and Settings under Your Company.
  3. Select Billing & Subscription at the left pane, then Resubscribe and enter the updated billing information.
  4. Tap Subscribe.

Your reply was very helpful. Question about billing though. I just realized how expensive Essentials was at full price today when I got the charge for my first full-price month. If I downgrade today will I be billed AGAIN today for the Simple Version? If yes then how many days before this month expires do I need to downgrade so that I don't get charged twice? OR does it take effect with the next bill? (In other words will I retain Essentials for this month then step down next month?) Basically I want to avoid getting billed twice. I don't care about Manage Bills/Track Time/ Multiple Users/Multiple Currencies so I think Simple will be fine for me and $500 a year is quite a lot for an individual's needs.

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Accounts and Settings.
  3. Click Billing & Subscription on the left of the screen.
  4. Select the View payment history link.

 

Additionally, you may wish to consider contacting the QuickBooks Online Phone Support Team. An agent of this team can pull up your account in a secure environment and go over specific billing questions. You can reach them with the following steps:

 

  1. Visit the following link: QuickBooks Support.
  2. Choose options for the two prompts.
  3. Click Get Phone Number.

Ok thanks. I don't think Online allows me to call. Your link for the phone number doesn't show two prompts but instead sends me to the Online help menu. It only seems to allow talk with an agent Mon - Fri. I'll try that after the holiday. Thanks
