I need to group my 'unpaid bills' report by class. class column is not allowed in customization options.

I use 'class' to separate different on going construction job sites. Every month I get bills from different vendors and I enter them as bills. When creating bills I enter 'class' in optional fields. at the end of the month I need to see all bills grouped by 'class' (job site) cuz I make draw from loan separately for each job. After that I need to mass print all checks for given class. (haven't gotten to printing point yet). I track expenses for each job site separately by class, because I dont have customers, or income till I finish building and sell entire house.

Hi there, usergreenwayhomesllc.

Currently, there's no option to run the Unpaid bill report by class. However, I'd suggest running the Purchases by Vendor Detail report and customize this. That way, you'll have the option to show all unpaid bills associated with a specific class.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Reports menu at the left panel.
  2. Choose Purchases by Vendor Detail.
  3. Click the Customize button.
  4. Go to the Rows/Columns section and click the Change columns link.
  5. Checkmark the Vendor and Class boxes.
  6. From the Filter dropdown arrow, choose the Transaction box and select Bill.
  7. Checkmark the A/P paid and choose Unpaid from the drop-down list.
  8. Choose the Vendor and Class box and choose the specific vendor and class.
  9. Hit Run report.

For additional information on how you can run a report by class, you can click this article: Run reports by class.

Please refer to this article on how you can create a budget by class based on profit and loss from last fiscal year to help you set more manageable budget targets for each part of your business: Set budget targets for each class.

Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below. I want to make sure everything you're all set with this concern. Have a good one.

HI,

Thank you for reply!

It seems that what you are able to do is basically what I need.

However, I run into a trouble on my first step!

I do NOT have 'Purchase by vendor detail"

In fact I have nothing show up when I search 'purchase'

I have 'transaction list by vendor' and I tried following the rest of your directions.

but i do NOT have 'class' option in the 'change columns' list.

The Purchase by Vendor Detail report is only available in QuickBooks Online Plus, usergreenwayhomesllc.

You can run the Expenses by Vendor Summary report instead to keep track of this. The same steps apply and you can also customize the report.

You can check this article about available reports for each subscription: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.

If you're looking to upgrade to QuickBooks Online Plus, here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a master or company admin.
  2. Click the Gear icon and then Account and settings.
  3. Select the Billing & Subscription tab.
  4. Make sure your payment info is up-to-date.
  5. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade your plan.
  6. Review the available plans and then select Choose plan.
  7. Follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan.

Please let me know if you have other questions, I'll be around to help.

Thanks for sharing some more information about your subscription, @usergreenwayhomesllc,

If you're using the Plus version and still can't find the Purchases by Vendor Detail report, try to access your QBO account in Incognito mode.

This will help check if this issue is caused by the large data in the cache. Your browsing activity will constantly overwrite itself without deleting the old stuff which will likely cause QuickBooks to function poorly.

The private window will not save any history making it a good place to identify browser problems. To start Incognito mode, use these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

If you're able to find the report while in private browsing, clear the browser's cache. This will help delete the history, so you can start in a clean slate.

If the same thing happens, I recommend contacting our Support Team. Reach us during our support hours. Our Live Help are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM til 3:00 PM on Saturdays.

  1. Go to the Help menu then select Contact us.
  2. Enter the keyword Payroll Account Management and Billing in the What can we help you with? box.
  3. On the next screen, scroll down to the Choose a way to connect with us section.
  4. Choose Start messaging to initiate a discussion with a live agent or Get a call for callbacks.
  5. When using the messaging option, make sure to enable pop-up windows. The chat box will appear at the bottom right section of your monitor, and an agent will be with you after filling in the information needed. See this:

When you're connected, provide all the information about your concern or request a viewing session with out representative.

Kindly update me on how it goes. I want to make sure this is resolved and I'll be right here if you need anything about QuickBooks reports and others. Have a good one!

I need to group my 'unpaid bills' report by class. class column is not allowed in customization options.

I talked to 2 different reps online and the secind one said that Online option doesnt have bill report by class. I need to wait for an update or something to happen. Only desctop offers that.

Regarding 'Purchases by vendor detail' report I dont have that because I did not make any purchases from vendors. (this is a bill that I received for a serivce. ) Technically I didnt make any purchases from Vendors. according to rep. But I should still be bale to see that report tho, it could be empty, but it has to be accessible in my opinion.

I have Unpaid bills report. If only I could add "class" column and group by that attribute. that would be lal I need.

So do I. Seems simple enough, but just another simple thing QBO doesn't provide.
