If you change Master Accountant, is previous Master Accountant notified?

If you change the Master Accountant by providing documentation that the company owner needs to change it to a new person, does the previous Master Accountant get any type of notification that this request or change is made?

Yes, they will get any notification, @cats20020.

I'll be glad to show you the steps. You can transfer or change the QuickBooks Admin from the settings by changing the user's role. Then, remove or delete the previous admin if it's no longer connected with your account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu at the top and select Manage users
  2. In the User Type column, check if the user you want is listed as Admin. If they’re not, tick Edit to change them to an admin.
  3. Select the small arrow ▼ in the Action column to the right of the user. Then, select Make master admin.
  4. You'll get a verification code to the phone number or email on file for your account. When you receive the code, enter it and then hit Continue.
  5. In the window, choose Make master admin to confirm that you want to make the change.

After making the change, sign out of QBO. The new admin will get the invitation email. Just ask them to click on the link to accept the invitation. The old admin will also get a notification once you remove or delete it. For more information, check out these links:

I'm here to help you again if you have any additional questions or concerns with QuickBooks Online. Take care and stay safe.

Thanks! Just to clarify, the previous Master Admin would or would not be notified in any way of the request or change? @ShiellaGraceA

I appreciate you getting back to us, @cats20020.

Allow me to provide additional information about changing the master admin user in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The previous master admin won't be able to get a notification for any changes made to the company after changing the Master Admin user. However, if the person who has the master admin account is no longer available, you'll have to send us a request. This way, someone from our support team will contact the previous master admin.

For the detailed steps and information, feel free to check out this article: Request to be the master admin or primary contact.

Please know you can continue to reach me here with any additional questions. Thanks for coming to the Community, wishing you continued success.

Sorry - My question is will the current Master Admin get notification that we are making a change to whom the Master Admin is when the request is made to change this person or when the change is actually made?

It’s okay, @cats20020. I appreciate your prompt reply and clarification.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), changing the Master Admin role needs the approval of the current Master Admin. Thus, the current Admin will be notified of the request.

Nonetheless, here’s how to change the Master Admin role in QBO :

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Manage Users.
  3. Ensure the user is listed as Admin.
  4. In the Action column, click the drop-down menu and select Make master admin.
  5. The current Master Admin will receive a verification code through the phone number or email used for the account. When received, enter it and click Continue.
  6. Select Make master admin to confirm the changes.
  7. Then, sign out to your QBO account and ask the user to open the invitation email then select the link and accept the invitation.

You can also check this article for more details and how to invite a user to become the master admin: Change your QuickBooks Online master admin user.

I’m also attaching this article for your future reference in managing your user’s access and QBO account: Add, delete, or change user access.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with on managing your QBO account. I’d be more than happy to assist you. Have a great day.
