Hey there, krucki.
The option to import a template for bills is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. I think you're referring to the custom template for invoices since you've mentioned that your template has a formula that generates that lets your client/customer know what cycle they are paying for.
Once a template is imported, we can longer directly edit it in QBO. We'll have to modify the original file of that template then reimport it. Since you don't have the original file anymore, we can simply download the imported template then make the necessary changes outside of the program. I'll guide you on how to do it.
First, let's download the PDF:
- Click the Gear icon.
- Choose Custom Form Styles from the Your Company column.
- Select the appropriate template, then click Preview PDF from the ACTION column.
- Hit the Download icon from the pop-up window.
- Open the file and make the necessary changes.
Once done, we can now import the updated template:
- Click the Gear icon.
- Choose Custom Form Styles from the Your Company column.
- Select Import style from the New Style drop-down menu.
- Choose Invoice from the Select a form type drop-down menu.
- Select Upload your .DOCX file field, then find and select your .docx template.
- Click Next, then verify your template fields if matches with QuickBooks fields correctly.
- Hit Next, then select Save if everything looks good.
I've included an article that will guide you in personalizing your sales forms in QuickBooks Online: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts.
