Inactive or "deleted" accounts keep showing up on the chart of accounts, when I have NOT checked the box to show inactive accounts.  How can I prevent the accounts from showing up?

Thanks for reaching out to us. Allow me to address your concern about the inactive and deleted accounts showing in the Chart of Accounts.


I've replicated the steps in my QuickBooks Online account and didn't encounter the same issue that you have. After I've deleted and inactivated the bank accounts I've created, they no longer show on my Chart of Accounts.


Let's perform some troubleshooting to fix the issue.  First, use a private or incognito window when logging into QuickBooks.
Here’s how:
•    Press Ctrl + Shift + N keys on your keyboard (Google Chrome).
•    Press Ctrl + Shift + P keys on your keyboard (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
•    Press Control + Option + P keys on your keyboard (Safari).


Once you’re able to log in using the private window, go to your Chart of Accounts and see if the deleted and inactive accounts are still there. If you’re only seeing the active accounts, I’d suggest clearing your browser’s cache since this can improve functionality.


Sometimes, switching to a different browser (Inter Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox) can help issues like this.

I see the same thing and I think it’s a glitch in the program.  Click gear>feedback and report the issue.

Same issue.  It's been going on for months now.  Very frustrating when you've confirmed to a client that you've cleaned up their COA.

I agree I keep deleting and it keeps coming back It will say its deleted but next time I go back to client account there it is again

Hello wendyh1,

 

Deleting an account is deactivating and removing it from your active list in Chart of Accounts. The entries that were recorded in it will also show on any financial reports. Unless you customize the report to show only active accounts.

 

Since we can't permanently remove a deactivated account, you can try to change the detail type and merge it to another account. Just make sure to handle the entries properly. For example, if a transaction must not be included in your reports, you can delete it.
