Wondering what the downsides are to switching from QB desktop to QB online? the cost for QB dektop is going up 30% a year and my small business is getting hammered every september with the cost.  So basically needing help understanding if the QB online will do the same as the Desktop?

Hi Kurt,

I'd like to help you compare the features of QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

The following chart displays some of the differences between the highest level of QuickBooks Online (Plus) and the desktop versions: https://enterprisesuite.intuit.com/products/enterprise-solutions/comparison-charts/

Please reach out if you have any questions about specific features that are a must for your business.

It looks like it hyperlinked the period I added at the end of the sentence. I took it out, so the link should work now. :)

May you please try to click it? It still gives Page 404 Error. Page not found.

QBO costs more than desktop, unless you have an enterprise suscription.

QBO does not have all the functions of desktop premier much less enterprise

Thanks Rustler that does help, we are using enterprise and last year we paid $1,800 for a 5 user subscription and this year it went up to $2,400 and apparently it went up again after I reknewned my subscription last month already.  As if it isn't bad enough my companies health care cost are going up 20% a year, QB went up 33% and rising! Not really wanting to go to QBO especially if we can't do the same things, but it looks like most accounting systems are all going cloud based.  feel like I am stuck with QBDT.  I appreciate everyones help.  Kurt

The real issue is whether or not you actually need enterprise specific functions.  That comparison I made is for premier/pro, what aspects of enterprise are you using that do not exist in premier that you require?

There is a third party service that will convert your enterprise data file to premier if using premier will work for you.  Premier, at least currently, is still sold as a stand alone program, you can buy it outright or with a subscription (US versions, the UK and CA have gone to subscriptions for pro and premier from what I understand)

@Dkcbl ,

If you don't need any specific feature in Enterprise edition, consider to downgrade it to Pro/Premier.

Great! You’ll be able to access your account anywhere as long as you have internet connection, David.

Before moving to the online version, you can run through these articles for your reference:

To export your company file:

  1. Choose Company.
  2. Select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Log in to you Intuit account and select a QBO company to be replaced by your desktop data.

That's it. You can check out this video for additional reference: Export to QuickBooks Online

Hi,

I was wondering if you did the switch and how it went for you?

It is something that I am considering, well actually, I already signed up and am finding it to be a bit more cumbersome.
