I hope you're doing great today, @skinlikerissas.

I can walk you through how to make your customer exempted from sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

You'll need to remove the check-mark of the This customer is taxable box from your customer's profile. This way, he will be exempted from the taxes to any sales transactions.

Know that the changes will reflect on your previous and future transactions. If you happen to have a negative balance for this customer, you can just issue a refund.

To remove the taxable mark:

  1. Select Sales from the left menu, then Customers at the top.
  2. Choose a name of the customer.
  3. Select Edit at the top.
  4. From the Tax Info tab, remove the check-mark on the "This customer is taxable" checkbox.
  5. Select Save.

You can also run the =Customer Contact List report and customize it to determine if a customer is taxable or not.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Reports and run the Customer Contact List report.
  2. Click the Small Gear icon, then check the Taxable box.
  3. Select Run report.
