Since getting QB online, I can't open my QB desktop

Hello, @ckline.

I'm here to share some information so you'd be able to access your QuickBooks account.

QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop are two different QuickBooks products under two different platforms. You should still be able to access your QuickBooks Desktop company file after the conversion process. Just to clarify, what specific error prompt did you received when trying to open your QuickBooks Desktop company file? This would be very helpful so we can narrow down the root cause of this concern.

In the meantime, here are the possible reason as to you're unable to access your QuickBooks Desktop account:

  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • Your QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  • The company name is too long

To resolve this, we can download and install the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub. This is a great tool that can help isolate possible data damage in your company file.

Step 1: Download and install the Tool Hub (Helps fix common errors)

        1. Close QuickBooks.

        2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

        3. Open the download Tool Hub.

        4. Follow the steps on how to install and agree to the terms and conditions.

        5. When finished, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open.

Note: You can also do a search in Windows for "QuickBooks Tool Hub."

Step 2: Run the Quick Fix my Program from the Tool Hub (A quick repair)

1. Choose Program Problems within the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

2. Pick Quick Fix my Program.

3. Start QuickBooks and open your data file.

If the issue persists, you can follow Solutions 2- 5 in this article for more details: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Lastly, you can refer to this article to help resolve unexpected issues when you convert from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
