Trying to use QB 2009 as an intermediate step to the cloud. We have user ID and password but have no way to answer the challenge question. Is there a fix for this?

The company file is from 2006 with no direct import to the cloud. We were told to use a QB that is a bit newer to convert it.

You have to migrate data from any supporting version (i.e QBD 2018-2021) to QB Online.

https:// quickbooks.grsm.io/us-promo

You may utilize the trial license of QBD 2011 then QBD 2015 prior to opening the converted file on the trial license of QBD 2020 or 2021. Check our profile name and send your business email address in a private message to us. We may share those trial licenses. Another option, purchase a 3rd party conversion service to get the converted file to be open on the trial license of QBD 2020/2021.

Trying to use QB 2009 as an intermediate step to the cloud. We have user ID and password but have no way to answer the challenge question. Is there a fix for this?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my question. We are aware of the need to use an intermediate level QB to convert the company file for the cloud. We purchased QB 2009 for this purpose (the file is from 2006).

Our issue is that QB 2009 poses a set of security questions on the same screen as the user ID and password (which we have). The questions are similar to, "name the city in which you were born". But we have none of these answers. The user ID and password are good.

We are aware of the need to convert the file and purchased QB 2009 for this step. Our issue is that the dialogue box where you enter the user and password also presents a drop down menu of security questions. These are similar to, "In what city were you born".  No one has the answers to any of these.

The user ID and password are good but we can't proceed beyond this page because of the security questions.

Good Morning, @hs_sa.

Thanks for the extra clarification. At this moment, your options will be restricted due to the version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) you're currently trying to get logged into. We won't be able to support the 2009 version of QBDT, but you can get in contact with our Customer Support Team to get you over to our Data Services Team. With some of the advanced tools that they have, they may be able to remove the password and allow you access to the company file.

Here's how to get in touch with them:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Pick the QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. Click the Contact Us option at the bottom of the pop-up screen.
  4. Give a brief description of the issue and press Continue
  5. Scroll down and choose to Get a callback

Here's another article that can be helpful for your business: Upgrade to newer versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise

Should you need any further information, just let me know. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Take care!

Thank you for that feedback. After several tries I got a ticket with data services. The password change utility requires the old version of Quickbooks to be installed, which we no longer have. Our only hope is if they can crack it open and convert. Sigh..

Intuit Data Service should be able to reset your admin password easily in hours. The challenge is how long they need time completing your request to upgrade the file 8)

And I have not been able to complete the required steps of creating an admin account for them or uploading the file. Each of these processes has frustrating glitches. Business Office is not happy.

As another option, purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

It may come to that -- a good suggestion, thank you.
