Why do some reports in the Management Report print landscape instead of portrait?

Hello there, info131.

There are reports in Management reports that you can view and print in portrait and or landscape by default. QuickBooks Online automatically adjusts the orientation to landscape if the content of that report doesn't fit in the portrait orientation.

You can add a customized report based on preference. Here's how:

  1. Create and save first a customized report. Check this article to do so: How to customize reports.
  2. Go to Management reports section.
Hit the drop-down arrow beside View and select Edit.
  3. Select which part of the report you wanted to insert the customized report.
  4. Click Add new page.
  5. From the drop-down beside New report, select the customized report you saved.
  6. Click Save and close.
  7. Modify the report name and click Save to confirm.

We'll be right here if you need more assistance with this.

Why do some reports in the Management Report print landscape instead of portrait?

Your solution to create a customized report doesn't work.  I have created a customized P&L in portrait.  When I view it in the Custom Reports, it is correct.  When I create a Management Report and add my custom P&L, it prints in landscape. I have tried deleting and re-creating...and it does not work.

Hi there, @lewisrebecca.

I want to ensure that you'll be able to print your P&L report in portrait successfully. Let's perform some steps to get this sorted out.

If you're using Chrome when printing your reports, you'll need to change the PDF option in Chrome settings to set portrait as the default orientation.

To do that:

  1. Open your Google Chrome.
  2. Go to the menu icon in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, select Advanced.
  4. In the Privacy and security section, select Content Settings.
  5. Scroll down and choose the PDF documents option.
  6. Toggle the “Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome” to the OFF position.
  7. Close the Settings tab.

If the problem continues, let’s apply the following troubleshooting steps to ensure that this is not browser related.

Here are the different keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works fine, you can go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Please follow the outlined steps in this article depending on the browser you're using: Delete or disable cache and temporary internet files in your web browser.

If trying these steps doesn't make a difference, you may visit these links for some troubleshooting steps about fixing printing issues:

These resources should help you print your reports correctly.

Please let me know how it goes. I'm just a reply away if I can be of additional assistance. Have a great day!

Your recommendations to turn off printing to PDF does absolutely nothing to fix the issue in question.

The issue is that the management reports are automatically rotating to Landscape based on the content.

I think it would be appropriate to try your recommendations yourself to see if it solves the issue. It would be even more appropriate to state the fact that the Management Reports have flaws that are irreconcilable. This will help avoid wasting everyone's time.

I appreciate your thoughts and for going through the steps above, @Madhattercat.

As of now, we're unable to select landscape or portrait when printing Management Reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO will automatically adjust the orientation of the report base on the content of its content. Rest assured, I'll submit this feature request on your behalf to our product engineers so they'll consider adding this in the future.

In the meantime, I recommend visiting our QuickBooks Blog page. From there, you'll learn more about the latest news and updates in QBO.

I've also added this article that can guide you in customizing reports in QBO. That way, you'll learn how to generate reports to show the data you need: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online

You're always welcome to post here anytime you have other questions or concerns. Have a great day!

I found the solution finally, well at least it resolved it for me.  When you hit "PRINT" open up "OPTIONS" next to your printer; there you will find three (3) tabs.  In the first tab "BASIC" you will see "ORIENTATION" and next to that is "PORTRAIT" and "LANDSCAPE", click the one you want and click "OK".  Hope this helps you!

How about a manual fix. Could export as DOCX and fix in Word?

Thanks for joining this thread, GuyV.

Yes, you can export the report as DOCX and manually choose the Orientation to be in a Landscape option.

Since there is no direct way to export the reports to DOCX, you'll need to do it in Excel form.

Here's how:

  1. Open the report and click the Export icon.
  2. Select Export to Excel.
  3. Then, convert the Excel file (XLS) to Word DOCX. (You can look for a converter application).

To give you more information about exporting reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO), here's an article that you can refer to: Export your reports to Excel from QuickBooks Online.

Once the Excel is converted to Word, you can start customizing the layout. I've shown a sample screenshot for a better view.

It's important that we always meet our customer's needs. While we continue to make improvements, I want you to be updated with the latest QuickBooks news and product release through our QuickBooks blog.

Get back to me if you have other questions. I'd be happy to address it. Have a good one!

That is the best workaround I found as well. Unfortunately it does not help when reports are being emailed through QBO. Hopefully they fix this soon.
