Register is not in chronological order.

HOw do I get the register and all entries to be in real chronological order?  I'm getting entries from various years popping up at the strangest places and really messes me up!

QuickBooks Team

Register is not in chronological order.

Hello there, santarich.

The transactions in the bank register are listed on the most recent date by default. You can sort the register using the following criteria:

  • Date: Sorts the list by transaction date.
  • Ref no: Sorts the list by the transaction reference number.
  • Type: Classify by type of transaction.
  • Payment: Categorized by the amount of the payment.
  • Deposit: Sorts by the deposit amount.
  • Reconcile Status: Sorts by the reconciliation status of the transaction.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to Accounting on the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click the View register link of the bank account you want to view.
  4. Select the column you want to sort.
  5. You can also click the Funnel icon to filter the transactions.

I'm adding a sample screenshot for a visual guide:

The following article includes more details on how to sort and filter transactions in the bank register.

Register is not in chronological order.

I'm using QB2017 and one of my registers is now in random date order.  I don't have "accounting" as an option of the left of my screen and nothing happens when I click on the date column.

I can help you sort the transactions on your register, @rachelkurland.

In QuickBooks Desktop, you can sort the order of your bank transactions depending on your desired information. Know that ascending order default order of the bank entries in the register.

To change the order of your transactions, you may open the account that your working and sort it from there.

Here's how:

  1. Click on Accountant at the top.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Select the account that your're working with.
  4. At the bottom of the page, press on Sort by and select the information on how you want them to be displayed.

On the other hand, if the problem continues, you can perform the re-sort list troubleshooting. This helps fix odd behaviors on your chart of accounts and other lists of transactions on your file.

You can check out this link to learn more on how to perform this in different areas: Find out how re-sorting helps you with your lists in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please update me on how these steps work for you. I'll be around if you need more help. Have a nice day!
