Renaming workstations shown in X-out reports. Old names showing in filter.

Looking for a way to rename workstations in POS.

Example: Workstation 1 in attached screenshot shows WS #1 as Joni, but it should actually be G8. Joni and her workstation haven't existed here in years. We're looking to have accurate workstation names so our bookkeepers can run reports for specific cash registers - something we've never done before.

Hello there, joni,

Let me help rename your workstation.

The workstation's name is the same as the computer's name. Here's how to update it:

  1. Log in to your computer with administrative rights.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Select the System icon.
  4. In the Computer name, domain and workgroup settings section, click Change settings.
  5. Choose the Computer Name tab in the System Properties window.
  6. Click Change and you'll see your computer's name listed.
  7. Delete the text and enter a new name for your computer on the Computer Name box.
  8. Click OK twice to close the System window.

You can also consult your IT personnel to guide you further for some changes that you wanted to perform in your computer.

If you want to change the workstation number, you can follow these easy and simple steps below:

  1. Go to File, then choose Preferences.
  2. Choose the Workstation preferences.
  3. Select General.
  4. Indicate the workstation number from the workstation part.

That's it. By performing the steps above, you'll be able to correct the name of your workstation.

Please feel free to leave a comment if you have further concerns about renaming workstations in QuickBooks Point of Sale. I'm just around if you need help.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, but the steps you give do not correct the issue.

One specific example is our Workstation #1 is still labeled as "JONI", even though the computer with that name hasn't existed on our network since 2014. Also, Workstation #1 is assigned to our Server, named "G8", yet that name does not show anywhere in the list of workstations.

Is there any other way to get a POS workstation label to match the current computer to which it is assigned?
