Setting up Inventory in QuickBooks Online

It's a delight to see you in the Community, foxparcel.

I have relevant details to share with you about how the Inventory feature works in QuickBooks Online.

To begin with, which QuickBooks Online version (Simple Start, Essentials, Plus) are you using? All three versions are able to track Non-inventory items, Services, and Bundles. However, only the QBO Plus subscription is able to track Inventory items. This includes the quantity, sales revenue, and cost of goods sold

If this is what you're using right now, you'll first enable the inventory tracking from the Account and Settings page. Then add the products you want to track in the Products and Services section.

To verify your subscription:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. In the left sidebar, pick Billing & Subscription.
  3. Check your plan details in the QuickBooks section.

To enable:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. In the left sidebar, pick Sales.
  3. Select the pencil next to Products and services and mark the option Track inventory quantity on hand.
  4. Choose Save.
  5. Click Done.

To add products:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Products and Services.
  2. Select New.
  3. Choose Inventory as the type.
  4. Enter necessary details, click Save and Close
