Starting New

I didn't understand how to transfer from my old desktop 2014 QB. The lady I talked with helped me transfer to my new QB 2019 Online. My 2014 I only used for inventory and to create invoices and billing. I did very little but I did try to do the banking at the time which was too confusing. My problem is everything transferred to my new QB 2019. I wish she had told me what was going to happen! I do not want the inventory on my 2019. We don't do that now. I just wanted my customers info and the invoices that we had for 2019. The other is already recorded with the taxes etc. Didn't even want the banking since I wanted to move that over with the new program. Anyone have any suggestions. I have looked all over but have not found anything.

Re: Starting New

You need an Accountant to look at your books and advise you on your next steps. It's important to preserve your transaction history and financial reports from the prior tax year in the event of an audit. And your current year transactions need to be recorded correctly in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your accounting partner, @MissB.

Allow me to step in for a moment and share some information about converting QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I agree with Certified_Pro. You have to make sure that you have a backup copy of all your data.

Meanwhile, you have two options in removing the inventory and banking files in your QBO:

  • You can manually delete each transaction but this will take so much of your time. Currently, we don't have the batch delete option.
  • You can delete all your online data and start over again. Since your company file is still new, this is very applicable for you.

If you prefer the second option, you can upload the customer info and invoices once the unnecessary information is removed.

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Import Data.
  3. Select appropriate data type.
  4. Select a CSV or Excel file to upload.
  5. Continue the prompts.

Let me know how it goes, MissB. Just add a comment or mention my name. I'm still here to help you further. Have a good one.
