Join nowI am trying to stop the QBBackupTemp files from being created and I referenced the article below:
Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file
My question which isn't addressed in the article is whether or not these settings are applied to the company file or are these settings per-user?
Also if it is per-user, if I wanted to turn off the setting below, does it require the file to be set to single-user mode temporarily?
Thanks for your help!
A QBBackupTemp is a temporary folder used as a holding area for QB file components whenever QuickBooks is creating a backup copy, pmkelly545.
The files will automatically be deleted once the backup data is finalized. In some instances, the temp folder may continue if there is an error message throughout the backup. That said, you'll have to perform manually delete.
Here's how:
However, If this does not resolve the issue, You can turn off the automatic backup feature. Here's how:
I can share some articles for future and additional reference:

I can help you with turning off the backup feature, @pmkelly545.
You can turn off the automatic backup feature by removing the scheduled backup from the File menu.
Follow the steps below:
You can have this article to know how to locate backups: Locating Backups and Company Data Files.
About the Preferences that you're referring to, can you tell me more about the QuickBooks Desktop version that you have? That will help me check if we still have that option here on my end.

We are using Quickbooks Enterprise: 2019. We have nightly backups which have been successful, but we getting GBBackup Temp files every hour.
When looking into it, it looks like one user is the owner of all these files. How do I stop this from happening? Is it a setting on his machine?
Thanks for your time.
Allow me to share a few information and guide you on what to do, pmkelly545.
A QBBackupTemp is a temporary folder used as a holding area for QB file components whenever QuickBooks is creating a backup copy. These files are automatically deleted once the backup file is completed. You'll have to make sure to uncheck the Keep QuickBooks running for quick startup box to prevent the QBBackup Temp files. To do this, you can follow the steps below:
However, if you're still seeing the temp (.tmp) folder, you can delete them manually. Here's how:
In some cases, you may encounter company files issues in QuickBooks. I've added this article for your reference: Fix Company File And Network Issues With QuickBooks File Doctor.
Feel free to let me know if you have any concerns about QBBack up Temp files. Don't forget, we're here to further assist you.
The setting that you are referring to is not in our version of Quickbooks.
We are using Quickbooks 19 Enterprise and below is the preferences page you are talking about:
A QBBackupTemp is a temporary folder used as a holding area for QB file components whenever QuickBooks is creating a backup copy, pmkelly545.
The created temp files are happening due to QuickBooks backup not being completed properly. Once the backup has been created and successful the temp backups will stop. If you are using Intuit Data Protect please log out and back in and then try to run a backup manually. If you're backing up manually on the computer, then please run a backup and make sure it has been completed.
These files are automatically deleted once the backup file is completed. In some cases, the temp (.tmp) folder may remain if there is a failure error message during the backup. With that said, you'll want to manually delete it.
Here's how:
Another option is to select the settings mentioned by my colleagues. We can update QuickBooks to its latest release to have the recent updates and fixes. It will also help us see options on the Preferences page.
After all the processes, you can close and reopen QuickBooks to refresh the changes. If temporary backups are still created, I suggest reaching out to our Phone Support Team so we can further investigate the cause of this issue.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have follow-up questions. Have a good day!
