Any printer can work, as long as it connects to the device you're using to access QuickBooks Online. 

There's a wide range of printers you can choose from, so you'll want to decide the features you need. I'd also recommend checking for their product reviews for performance and quality. 

I personally prefer HP printers for general use and check printing (we've been using an HP printer for years and it gets the job done).

What type of printer is required to print checks from QuickBooks?

My preference is an HP LaserJet 400 or similar  with an alternate sheet feed mechanism. Feeding checks from a tray can involve only loading just the right number of checks for the check run and possibly having to deal with reverse order printing. With a sheet feeder you can stack more than enough checks and they will print in the exact order as stacked. Just remember to remove the blank checks prior to starting any other non-check print job as the feeder tray takes priority

Another very interesting answer is coming from Xerox : 

they just released a "quickbook application" that seems really interesting to help us to scan multiple receipts in a single row. and for sure, their printer is also printing everything coming from Quickbooks.

To visit QuickBooks Online's app center, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click Apps from the menu tab.
  3. If you're not sure what application you're looking for, type in the specific feature you want to have.

Jut installed QB Preimer for Manufacturing & Wholesale 2019 and I can't any longer print our payroll checks on our dot matrix printer (Okidate Microline 421 9 pin). Today is pay day so WE HAVE A CRISIS RIGHT NOW. Help, what must I do to get my Oki printing payroll checks?

You need to make sure the Device Driver of your printer is updated. Doing this will ensure that QuickBooks will be able to work with your printer when printing the payroll checks. i've been using an hp laserjet pro 400 for years with quicken. just switched to quickbooks online. problem: printing single checks. they always get stuck in the printer unless you print them portrait orientation using the center-feed option - an option that quicken gives you before printing but i haven't seen the option anywhere in quickbooks. suggestions?

I can provide some clarification about the printing options in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

At this time, QBO doesn't have the Center-Feed option for Portrait orientation. In the meantime, it would be a good idea to try printing your checks using the Landscape orientation. For additional insight about this, I'm also including this article: How to print checks

We can run a test print to identify if the issue is coming from our printer itself or not. Let me guide you though.

  1. Open an offline document. For example: an MS Word document and Notepad text.
  2. Print the document.

You can visit the Intuit Marketplace website to see vouchers specifically designed for printing payroll checks.

 

Just a heads up, QuickBooks currently doesn't have the functionality to print Magnetic Ink Character Resolution (MICR) fonts on checks. You can look for a third-party software package designed to print MICR fonts.

Your response on any printer printing Quicken checks is incorrect.  We have an Epson Workforce 545 and it will not pick up a single buisness check to print it.  The checks come in three to a sheet, 8 1/2" by 11".   When we use the first two checks this leaves a single check 8 1/2" by 3 1/2".  The single check will jam in back of paper feeder.  Does anyone use a printer on the buisness checks and it will print the third check when it is by itself?

Since the reply was unable to resolve the issue, you can run a test print to identify if the hurdle is coming from the printer itself. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague, @ShiellaGraceA, above this thread.

 

Also, if the issue persists, I'd encourage consulting Epson support or an IT technician to see if they can provide additional hardware (printer) drivers or fix its printing issues.

I need a printer with a separate feeder for checks (three per page), especially for printing a check on which only one of three checks remains on the sheet.  Most printers struggle with or mutilate “short paper.”  I have an old HP with a separate feeder in my Florida house, but can find NOTHING like it for my summer house.  Does anyone know of a printer with a separate tray (one can’t feed checks into a single slot if one wants to print multiple checks.

Hi! We have been using an older model of Epson, LQ-590 to print pay slips with QuickBooks and Windows 7 using perforated forms. We have no problems with that.  Now,  we want to migrate QuickBooks to Windows 10 Pro and use the newer LQ-590II printer. It is basically a newer model in the family of Epson's LQ series.  Would anyone know if this will work with QuickBooks Enterprise 21.0?  What dot matrix printer that you know works with Enterprise Edition would you recommend.?  Thanks.

As mentioned by my peer, any printer can work in QuickBooks. We treat all businesses fairly, that's why I’m unable to recommend which printer type works with the Enterprise version.
