Join nowI do IT support for a small business. They are running QB Pro 2015 on a Windows 10 PC. The PC is standalone, not in a domain (so no group policy). But the PC is physically connected to the office network, and via that, also the internet. The one employee that uses QB is not an expert, but she said that she does any QB updates when she sees them.
Just last night she started seeing this TLS error - it reads:
"This version of QuickBooks requires TLS 1.2 for secure communications. You must perform the following actions to allow QuickBooks to use TLS 1.2:"
"Internet Explorer TLS 1.2 Validation Failed Contact your administrator for further support. ErrorKey - HKLM_IE_SECURITY_PROTOCOL_ERROR"
The user has told me that she just ignores the error and the program seems to function OK otherwise. But me being the IT guy, I don't like to ignore error messages. I did research the issue and the IE advanced settings do show the TLS boxes all checked. Also, the .net version is 4.7.2 (This PC already had the Oct 2018 fall windows update)
Any suggestions/insights/hints?
It's great to hear from you today, @paulgraz.
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I'd like to provide a little more information regarding TLS 1.2 in QuickBooks Desktop.
It's good you've made some update with your Operating System, Internet Explorer, and .Net Framework. Let me help double-check other settings so we can get rid of this error.
Aside from these updates you've made, you also need to run QuickBooks with elevated privileges (or with Admin rights). This is to make sure that the correct Internet security settings are established.
To do that:
Once done, let's re-run the TLS 1.2 Readiness tool. It will recognize the information that you're now running QuickBooks with elevated privileges. Also, you may find this article helpful: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1774614-verify-and-troubleshoot-quickbooks-desktop-and-interne....

I'm replying to this older posting, because at the very least it has the pertinent background info about the installation at in the original post.
I did the steps outlined Rose about, and the TLS errors went away - for a little while - then they came back for a while, and then they went away on their own. Very strange.
But our real concern now is that we're getting errors trying to backup, and I just don't have confidence that our installation is generating good backups. The first error indicates that the backup is not successful, and asks for a data rebuild. After that's done it says there are duplicate records. Our QB data entry person says she sees no issues when entering data, just these errors when backing up.
Where do we go from here?
Hi there, @paulgraz.
Let's fix the error you're getting when trying to back up your files in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
QuickBooks usually detects these errors if two or more names in your lists are identical. This occurs when importing lists or transactions either from a different company file, from Excel, or other integrated applications.
Rebuilding your company file usually resolve the damage list elements. For the steps, you can check it here: Resolve data damage on your company file.
If the error/s continues after the rebuild, find and edit the duplicate lists to resolve the problem. Before doing the steps, I highly suggest backing up your company file.
You can follow the steps provided in this article to find and edit the duplicate lists: QBWin.log: Verify list. Duplicate name encountered.
In case you have any other QuickBooks concerns in the future, you can always read our help articles: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.
