Trying to change Other Name to correct name which already exists. Appears to let me do that and merge but then get message the name has a balance or used in a transaction. How to determine where so it can be changed to remove the Other Name.

Trying to clean up similar or almost duplicate Other Names. Tried changing initials of Other Name to correct existing name I want to use. It appears to let me and merge with the correct Other Name but then get message Can’t delete name, it has a balance or is used in transactions. How can I determine where it’s used so I can change it’s use and delete the name of only initials. When I use the Find function to look for the name I want to delete no transactions come up.

Is the other Name a Customer or Vendor name?

Add an x or something to the end of the Other Name and then Covert it to the same Type as the Name that you're trying to merge with. Then once the are both Vendors (or whatever) go edit the name again to put it back to normal and then Merge them.

You may also want to go through the old transactions to make sure the Accounts associated with those transactions are correct.
