Unable to delete duplicate transactions.

Can't remove duplicates!

I have come back to quickbooks on request from my accountant. So I've started connecting banks to my account to sync data. I had problems with the first attempt with PayPal bank and decided to start over. I did once with the existing PayPal bank name. But then disconnected that and created a new one PayPal bank 2 which I managed to get right and reconcile the last 5 months.

I decide to run a report - wait a minute, this doesn't add up. I have 3x profit than I should. Would be fantastic, but I know its not correct. So I start digging and I see I have duplicate transactions from PayPal. I come to find out that removing a bank does not remove the transactions. WHAT? What kind of idiot software architect would decide this? Should at least give us an option to delete?

I try to fix the problem and find out that I can only delete 1 transaction at a time... I have 100s! This is NOT going to work for me.

So I thought I would get smart and close the connection of the PayPal bank2 that I had reconciled successfully, sync PayPal again with old name PayPal bank name. Now I was able to Exclude and then Delete. BUT THEY STILL SHOW UP IN THE REPORTS! WHY??

This is just insane! It would be easier for me to close my quickbooks account and open another and start over. I will not spend time deleting individual transactions. Quickbooks is supposed to save you time, not take up all your time!

Any ideas before I give up and go back to my old solution?

Thanks!

Unable to delete duplicate transactions.

Good day, @johnlarsen.

Thanks for sharing the complete details of your banking concern in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Once you disconnect your account, this will only remove your transactions in the For Review tab. If you delete it from your chart of accounts, QuickBooks will create a journal entry to moves the remaining balance to another account. However, your existing transactions won't disappear and stay on your financial reports.

If you wish to remove the duplicate transactions, you have to open each of them and delete them manually one at a time.

I know how convenient it would be for you to be able to delete multiple entries at once. Therefore, let me take note of this as a suggestion to improve your QuickBooks experience.

We continue to look for ways to improve the product for our customer's convenience. While the option is not yet available, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Blog. All of our latest updates and features will be posted and shared there.

Drop me a reply if you have other questions. I'm always happy to assist you further. Have a great day ahead.

Unable to delete duplicate transactions.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the lack of this feature fails quickbooks online as a usable product.

We should have an option to delete a bank and all its transactions as well as a bulk clean up from a 'deleted bank'.

Thanks again.

Unable to delete duplicate transactions.

Hi johnlarsen,

Thank you for your feedback. I see the importance of being able to delete transactions in batches for you. I'll share this idea with our product engineers to be considered in future updates. In the meantime, you can consider Raymond's suggestion.

If you have other questions about handling PayPal transactions, feel free to go back to this thread.

Unfortunately, Raymond's suggestion is not practical. I'll go back to my old book keeping solution until this feature is added to Quickbooks online.

Thanks,
