Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your partner in business, @ElaineF.

 Let me share some information when upgrading QuickBooks.

 If you’re looking for easy accounting software with impressive features and mobility, QuickBooks Online is an excellent choice. On the other hand, if you want locally installed software with complex accounting needs, you can go with QuickBooks Desktop.

Both QuickBooks Online and Desktop offer a large number of features. While they share many of the same features, QuickBooks Desktop features are often more developed, except when it comes to invoicing. There are some key features that only QuickBooks Online has, including lending, international invoicing, and mobile apps. So, it comes down to which features your business values most.

If you want to purchase the desktop version, I recommend contacting our support team. They can further assist you with the process and also restore your data from QuickBooks 2012 to the latest version.

Please know that you'll need to create a backup file first to make sure that the data will be saved before upgrading.

Here’s how:

 1. Open the File menu at the top.

2. Choose Back Up Company, and then Create Local Backup

3. Click Next, then choose where you want to save your backup copy.

I’ve added screenshots for visual reference.

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'll be happy to help you out. You can count on us here in the Community to guide you every step of the way. Take care and have a good one!

@ElaineF

Just to clarify, if your company is located in Ireland, which QB Desktop 2012 country version do you have now? Is it a US version or a UK version?
