A deposit was fixed in January, I am able to reconcile the bank account again but the accounts receivable account is off now by $3,400 in 01-28-21. How do I fix this?

The deposit was originally fixed due to part of the deposit was a payment from a client for $1,700. He made the deposit from the client in May. Which threw off the bank reconciliation. So I deleted the deposit in May and corrected the deposit in January (so I thought). It took me a couple of tries and I think that is how I screwed up the accounts receivable in January.

I'd like to help with your question about A/R balances, doraweise.

Let's run a report for Accounts Receivable and review the details to check what's causing the amount to be off. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for Accounts Receivable, then click the drop-down list View register under the Action column.
  3. Select Run report.
  4. Change the Report period to This Calendar Year or use the date of the reconciliation that changed the amount of your A/R.

Then, review the data and look for an entry or transactions that are causing the issue. You might also need to create a journal entry to clear out the balance.

We would also recommend reaching out to your accountant for additional advice on this matter. If you don't have one, you can search for accredited and certified ProAdvisor here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant/.

Aside from that, you can also contact our phone or chat support teams for QuickBooks Online. They can take a closer look at your A/R and run reports with you to determine why the amount is off. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right hand corner of your QBO account.
  2. Type in "Talk to a human" in the chatbox, then press Enter.
  3. Select Get help from a human.
  4. Click Chat with us or Have us call you

Lastly, let me add a couple more articles for future guidance and reference:
