Adding Tags after Reconciling on QBO

Hello,

Our client informed us they want tags added to their checks, but these transactions have already been reconciled. When I add the tags to these reconciled transactions they do not show up on the tag group reports. Is this because these transactions have already been reconciled? If so, will I have to undo the reconciliation for the tags to then show up on the report?

Thanks!

Adding Tags after Reconciling on QBO

Hi there, Gabbi62.

I'm here to ensure the Tags will reflect on the reports.

Yes, you're correct. You'll have to undo the reconciliation so the Tags group will show on the report. Here's how to undo them manually:

  1. From the Accounting tab, select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account that has the reconciled transaction. Then select View register.
  3. On the (Reconciled) column, repeatedly click the box until it shows as blank.
  4. Select Save.

From there, you're good to add the Tags. Here's an article as your guide: Add tags in QuickBooks Online.

Once done, you can reconcile the transactions again. Feel free to browse this link as your guide: Reconcile accounts.

Keep me posted whenever you have concerns managing transactions. I've got your back!

Adding Tags after Reconciling on QBO

Do you know if there is any other way to group transactions and produce reports per Group without having to undo the reconciliations? Or is this the only way?

Adding Tags after Reconciling on QBO

Hey there, @Gabbi62.

Let me provide a clarification about running reports per tag group.

Using tags and group tags is a great way to get deeper insights into your sales and expenses. Transactions with tags added before or after reconciling will show up on reports. Thus, it doesn't matter when you label them. Make sure to select the appropriate filters to show your desired result.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. In the Search field, type in the report you want to pull up, for example, Profit and Loss by Tag Group or Transaction List by Tag Group. Then, select it.
  3. Modify the reporting period.
  4. In the Display columns by dropdown, select Tag Group. If you didn't include these labels in a group, choose Ungroup tags instead.
  5. Click Run report.

Another way to track things is by classes. You may utilize this feature to get clearer understandings on your sales, expenses, or profitability by business segment.

Please let me know if there's anything else that I can help with your reports. I'm always here to assist. Have a wonderful day.
