Bank rules set up incorrectly, then deleted the rule - now I'm getting a credit for each one... I cannot locate the rule and don

It's shows a charge and then a payment for each Apple transaction. NOt sure how it happened but in Payee account the expenses are coming from a credit card - not the proper category

Hi there, @jayne15. I'd be delighted to help you in categorizing those transactions properly.

Bank rules in QuickBooks Online are a marvel and can save data entry time. It helps automatically categorize and add transactions for you. If QuickBooks already added the transactions before you deleted the rule, you can undo them from the Categorized tab.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Select the blue tile for the account you want to review.
  3. Select the Categorized tab.
  4. Find the transactions you want to remove.
  5. Select Undo from the Action column.

The screenshot below shows you the last three steps.

Once done, the transaction will go back to the For Review tab. Then, you can recreate the  rule and make sure to select the correct category.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking or Transactions menu.
  2. Select the Rules tab.
  3. Click New Rule.
  4. Enter a new rule name.
  5. Select Money in or Money out from the dropdown menu.
  6. From the In dropdown, select the bank or credit card account.
  7. Set the rule conditions. Decide the transaction must meet All or Any of the conditions. You can add up to 5 conditions.
  8. In the Conditions fields, specify whether the rule applies to Bank textDescription, or Amount. Then, select ContainsDoesn't contain, or Is exactly to decide when how QuickBooks applies the rules.
  9. Select the settings for the rule. Select the Transaction TypePayee, and the Category to apply.
  10. Select Save.
