Re: Can I connect multiple checking accounts from the same bank?

So just figured this out, you can do this by creating sub accounts.

First follow this guide to create sub accounts.   I didn't create any parent accounts, I just created a few sub-accounts under the pre-generated parent account "Checking".

Then add the bank accounts to those sub accounts you created under Checking, do not select the parent account "Checking" itself during this process.  If you previously connected bank accounts to parents, you'll have to disconnect them and start over.

Thank you for your answer however based on the error message I receive:

"Checking is already linked to a bank feed. Select a QuickBooks account without an existing bank connection."

It does not sound like this functionality is supported.  I've used both the online and desktop apps and the behavior is the same.

Thanks for bringing this matter to my attention, @matt-qb.

I’m here to help you get to the bottom of this issue.

This error message typically comes up if you are adding multiple credit cards for the same bank in QuickBooks Online.

Before connecting to Online Banking, you need to identify how your financial institution sends your downloaded transactions. If they download to only one account, you can connect the main one. If it’s to the individual accounts, link the sub-accounts.

Let me show you how:

  1. Click Accounting from the left menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the bank account to connect.
  3. From the Action column, select Connect bank.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your bank account.

Check out the following articles for more information:

This should get you pointed in the right direction.

Give this a try and let me know if this works out for you. I’m always here to keep helping. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Re: Can I connect multiple checking accounts from the same bank?

thanks very much for your reply. Here is what I did:

Created a GL account named Bank of America. I did not set this up for connection to the bank.
I created three other Bank of America Accounts as sub-accounts under the above.
As an example, I set up Bank of America Account A, which had a savings and checking, to direct download from the bank. This was successful.
I then set up Bank of America Account B, different company, with only a checking account, to direct download from the bank. I received the error that I cannot connect multiple accounts to the same bank.

Did I miss a step or do something incorrectly?

Thank you

Steven

Thank you for joining the thread, @matt-qb.

Allow me to step in and share some insights about adding multiple bank accounts in QBO.

If you're using the same bank, you can add multiple bank accounts using the same login credentials.

If you're adding multiple checking accounts for the same bank, you can use sub-accounts so that it will allow you to add the accounts.

For more information about sub account setup, you can refer to this article: About bank or credit card subaccount setup.

Let me know if you have other questions about adding multiple checking accounts. I'll be here to help however I can.

Re: Can I connect multiple checking accounts from the same bank?

Thanks for sharing additional information, pasteve99.

If the checking account is already connected with the parent account, you'll get a message that the account is already connected when you'll try to connect it with its sub-account. This is the reason why you're seeing an error that you cannot connect multiple accounts to the same bank.

Also, you can check this article for more details: About Bank or Credit Card Subaccount Setup.

Please let me know if you have more questions. I'd be around anytime.

Re: Can I connect multiple checking accounts from the same bank?

The Parent BANK OF AMERICA is not connected to the bank in any manner.

Bank of America Account One-lets assume this is the name of the account with the bank (checking and savings) is connected to the bank.

Bank of America Account Two-again assuming this is the name of the account with the bank-a different login name and account, cannot connect to the bank as I get the error that the bank is already connected with a different user login
