Can someone help me with importing Google Timeline in QBSE. I was told it wasn't an option but GQSE gives you instructions on exactly how to do it. I did not get the answers or help from support or sales.

Can someone help me with importing Google Timeline in QBSE. I was told it wasn't an option but GQSE gives you instructions on exactly how to do it. I did not get the answers or help from support or sales.

Welcome and thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @rjindpctr-gmail-.

Yes, QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) allows importing trips from Google Timeline. I'm here to share with you the detailed instructions.

To get started, export the trips from Google.

  1. Sign in to the Google account you want to export miles from. Keep this open in a separate browser tab.
  2. Log in to your QBSE account.
  3. Go to the Miles menu, then select Import Google trips from the Add trip dropdown.
  4. Select the Google Takeout link.

It then opens up the Google Takeout page in a new web browser tab. You need to hover over your Google profile icon to make sure you're signed in to the correct account. Then, follow these steps:

  1. In Google Takeout, select the Location history checkbox from the Select data to include section.
  2. Choose the Multiple formats button and then JSON from the Location history dropdown. Then select Next step.
  3. In the Delivery method dropdown, select Add to drive.
  4. In the File type & size section, select .zip for the type and 2 GB for the size.
  5. Tap Create Export.

Google may take a few seconds to create the file. Then:

  1. Select the Open in Drive link.
  2. Tap the verticle ellipses , then Share.
  3. Hit Copy link.

After that, you're now ready to import the trips to QBSE:

  1. Go back to your QBSE account, then select Miles at the left pane.
  2. Click on the Add trip dropdown, then choose Import Google trips.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Import Google Trips or Import your work trips window.
  4. Paste the Google Timeline file link into the Google Drive URL field.
  5. Click on Import.

Once your Google Timeline trips are now in QuickBooks, here's how you can categorize them:

  1. Go to the Miles menu.
  2. Review the imported trips
  3. Categorize each as Business or Personal.

In case you want to track mileage in QBSE automatically, you can as well check the instructions from this link.

If you have any other questions about QuickBooks or mileage tracking, please feel free to leave a comment below. I've got your back and am always happy to help. Thanks for coming, keep safe!

Hi, thanks for that however I followed those instructions twice and both times it would not import.  It comes up as a zip file that won't open.  When I post the URL in Quickbooks, it says there is nothing there to import.

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Sorry for the typo. That was supposed to read QBSE.

I have tried it two more times.  It is not working. It comes up that it cannot find anything to import.  The rep at Quickbooks I spoke to on chat says importing Timeline under the Self Employment product doesn't exist. You have to upgrade.  If it doesn't work why would the program offer instructions.  I cannot get it to import.

Any suggestions?

Hey there, @rjindpctr-gmail-.

Thanks for following up with us. I hope you're enjoying the day so far.

This feature is available for all of our QuickBooks Self Employed users. Since you've exhausted all the steps provided by my colleague above, I recommend reaching out to our Self Employed technical support team. Our tech support can review your account in a secure environment and investigate why your Google Timeline is not importing. I've included the steps below to contact QuickBooks Self Employed.

  1. Select Assistant from the top bar.
  2. Enter Talk to a human
  3. Then choose your preferred support method: Message an agent (Live chat), Call an agent, or Get a callback

In the meantime, feel free to check out Import Google Timeline trips into QuickBooks Self Employed for additional details.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'll be here every step of the way. You can reach out to the Community at any time. Take care and have a great day!

Hi Tori,

I just spoke to a specialist in Self Employment.  He could not find my trips and then he asked other people in the department and they could not find my trips.  I was also told it is in Beta status and they are taking feedback from those having issues.  There is nothing they could do.  I tried it 8 times and each time it comes up that there are no trips to import.  So I am not sure if this program is for me.  I will wait and see if a solution emerges.
