Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

I have Quickbooks for Mac 2016 which has recently been de-supported by intuit. My business is very small so I plan to keep using it and download and import my credit card transactions manually using the .qbo files American Express offers as a download option.

Now instead of putting the transactions in my Amex account, I get this error message:

QuickBooks was not able to complete your request. Please contact your financial institution.

Has the QB 2016 for Mac also de-activated the ability to import transactions manually?  If not may I ask for some trouble-shooting suggestions?

It would be good just to know so I do not waste anymore time trying to figure this out.

I have tried to call customer service but in the last 24 hours no matter what time of day I called I have spent over an hour on hold before I gave up.

After 20 years of loyalty kind of a bummer the product has gone so far down.

Thank you

Sounds like you may be choosing the incorrect download file type. QBO stands for QuickBooks Online. Review the import file type requirements for your desktop version of QuickBooks.

HI Regina,

Thank you for your reply!

I have used that file type in the past with success, but maybe since the online function for QBMac2016 is de-activated it can not recognize that file type?

Yes, that is one of the features lost when support is discontinued.

Re: Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Where do I find import requirements for QBMac2016?

Is it possible to manually import credit card statement files somehow?

Re: Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Hello there, @22two.

You can visit our QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2016 User guide. From there, you can read more information about the import requirements (page 162) in QuickBooks Mac 2016.

And yes, it's possible to manually import your credit card statement. Bust first, you'll have to download a transaction file (.qbo) from your financial institution website. Once downloaded, you can now import it to your QBDT Mac 2016. Let me show you how:

  1. Choose Banking.
  2. Select Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Choose an account from the pop-up menu.
  4. Click Download to log in to your financial institution’s website and download a Web Connect file.
  5. Click Import File to import the Web Connect file into QuickBooks.

For more information and detailed steps on importing your credit card statement, you can go to page 163 from the QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2016 User guide.
