Yes for sure. You may try restoring your backup file (QBB) later.

Can you install QB Pro 2020 as if you have no previous companies and then just import past data from Back UP?

As mentioned by Fiat Lux - ASIA, yes you can, @scsmith620. I'm here to guide you on how to successfully install QB Pro 2020 and then import your past back up data. This way, you can start monitoring the growth of your business using QuickBooks.

Before you install QB Pro 2020 on your computer, make sure it meets the system requirements needed. This will let you have the best experience using the program. Then, you'll have to download QB Pro 2020, save it, and have your product and license number handy.

Once everything is ready, you're now ready to install. Here's how:

  1. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooks.exe).
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  3. Accept the software license agreement, then select Next.
  4. Enter your Product and License numbers.
  5. Select Next.

After that, continue the installation by selecting between the two options (express or custom and network) for installing QuickBooks. Then, activate it to complete the process. For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to Step 3: Decide which install type is right for you and Step 4: Activate QuickBooks Desktop sections in this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

After the installation process, you'll have to create a QuickBooks Desktop company file. It is where you'll be saving all your financial information.

Once done, you can now import (bank transactions, accountant’s changes, general journal entries, batch transactions, and customers and vendors list) your back up data. To learn more about the accepted files and the complete view of the lists and transactions you can import, kindly check out this article: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, you can check out this article to further guide you with the common task using QuickBooks Desktop. This contains sets of hyperlinks on how to perform each process to ensure the accuracy of your business financial records: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop.
