Can you switch all credit card transactions from one credit card to another?

All of my credit card transactions downloaded to the wrong credit card account.  Can I move the all together or do I have to do one at a time?

Can you switch all credit card transactions from one credit card to another?

Good day, @melissamm130.

Yes, you can move your transactions to their correct accounts inside QuickBooks. Depending on how you entered them, you'll have to do it one at a time to fix your balance.

Simply open your credit card register and transfer them to the correct account. Let me show you show:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu and choose Chart of accounts.
  2. Search for the incorrect credit card account and select View register.
  3. Click each affected transaction and select Edit.
  4. Choose their correct credit card account from the Transaction window.
  5. Select Save and close, then repeat the process until your book is fixed.

In addition, you can send feedback to our developers about moving multiple transactions to the right accounts. That way, they can review your request and improve your QuickBooks experience.

I'm also including our Help articles for related references in managing your account and transactions.

Please let me know if you need further assistance in moving your transactions. I'm always here to help you out. Have a nice day.

Hi @melissamm130,

Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about the credit card concern you had the other day. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at anytime.

Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Can you switch all credit card transactions from one credit card to another?

I tried this, but it gives an error saying the item is 'matched' when it is not. When I go to 'view register' it only shows transactions that have been categorized and not the multiple I need to associate with the correct credit card.

Can you switch all credit card transactions from one credit card to another?

Hi - I had the same issue and tried to fix using your steps, however I get an error saying 'This transaction is matched to a downloaded transaction. If you want to change the account, you need to unmatch the transaction first.'

If I remove the transaction so it's not categorized, it then doesn't show in the list when I follow your steps.

Any ideas how to fix or what I'm doing incorrectly?

Thanks,

KC

Hi KC,

I'm here to help you recategorize the transactions.

You'll get that error message whenever the entries you're trying to modify are downloaded from your bank. To resolve it, let's change the category through the Categorized tab. Here's how:

  1. From the Transactions tab, select Bank transactions.
  2. Go to the Categorized tab.
  3. Select the transaction.
  4. Click Undo.
  5. Go to the For review tab.
  6. Select the transaction.
  7. Click Categorize, and then select the type of category.
  8. Click Confirm.

Moreover, I've added this article as your guide in making sure your accounts match with your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account.

You can always post in the forum whenever you have concerns about categorizing transactions.
