Re: Capital One bank connect

Hey there BobW,

Welcome to the Community. I'm glad to offer my assistance.

Capital One Bank will soon be discontinuing their Direct Connect service to QuickBooks. You will still be able to connect your bank account, but first you'll need to switch from Direct Connect, to the new Express Web Connect.

I found a link for you that explains how the change can be made. You can check it out here: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1638552-direct-connect-online-banking-for-capital-one-will-be-....

This should get you back on track. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Capital One bank connect

I tried doing it that way and even contacted Capital One Bank.  It doesn't work.  The list is supposed to have "Capital One Bank-New".  It only has "Capital One Bank" which doesn't work anymore.  I think QuickBooks didn't update their list yet.

Re: Capital One bank connect

I am trying to solve this as well. Now the site has Capital One - New, but when I try to connect it states I am not signed in, when I actually am. Anyone know how to solve this?

Re: Capital One bank connect

It works now.  I think QuickBooks didn't update their site in time.  Now, when I tried to reconnect through feeds, Capital One Bank - New was on the list.  I clicked on it and it is now working.  Sometimes you just have to wait for sights to fix bugs after they release something.

Re: Capital One bank connect

I am having the same problem  I have followed all the steps provided, logged in to my intuit account and everytime I click on capital one bank- new when setting up bank feeds, I get the message "Error Not signed in using intuit ID"   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Doc-

I finally figured it out. Under my company then go to my company it say manage your account. I kept signing in there, but right above the manage your account button, you have a sign in . When I signed in there, it worked and allowed me to set up. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much!   Worked perfectly.   I really appreciate your help.  I kept clicking on manage your account as well.   I think the directions that they provided should be more clear.

Re: Capital One bank connect

I'm still having problems, I even upgraded from QBO 2015 to 2018 with no success :(

I've Deactivated and re-enrolled the accounts multiple times and I cant get it working.

I can attach to "capital one new", but I keep getting duplicate transactions in? Bank fees never shows "Today" as last sync'd time.

More importantly I can't use "Bill Pay". It's greyed out as an option and I need to pay by Federal and State payroll withholding and I'm hating Capital One right now.

Any sugestions are greatly appriciated :)

Re: Capital One bank connect

I called Capital One and I don't think they inow what they are talking about.  When I asked if I could still send payments directly from Quickbooks to Capital One They said "Everything should be the same as it was before."  As best I can decifer "Web Connect"  and "Express Web Connect", which is what they currently offer, are both one way feeds from a bank to Quickbooks.  You can't send bill payments from Quickbooks to Capital one anymore like you could when they had "Direct Connect".   I'm hoping I am wrong on this since the only reaason I switched to Capital One is because TD Bank stopped offering Direct Connect.

The problem is there isn't a list of banks that offer this service that I know of.

Re: Capital One bank connect

The problem with Wells Fargo is it is about 15.00 per month whereas Capital One was free to use direct connect.  I don't know of anyone that offers it for free unless you can travel to a branch to set it up which means they have to be local.

Re: Capital One bank connect

Why I like direct connect.

From a book keeping point of view it is great. You can send payments directly to your bank in Quickbooks and also receive acknowledgement of entered and cleared checks from your bank.  You have a clear running balance of payed and outstanding checks.

Without it you have to double enter everything. IE pay bills online and then repay them in quick books.  The other option is to pay them online, wait for them to be processed and download them into quickbooks.  With this way you can have outstanding checks that are higher than your balance which can be risky.

Morgan,

Do you (or anybody) have any good contact numbers for anybody at Capital One to complain too. This is really unfair for them to just stop this service.  I Really need Bill Pay ASAP.

Thanks,

Re: Capital One bank connect

I don't have a number off hand.  It took me about 45 minutes to work my way through their system the last time and they weren't much help.  I would suggest you go online and pay your bill.  It is what you will have to do from now on anyway.  When it is paid you will be able to download it to Quickbooks through Express Web Connect.

Re: Capital One bank connect

When I say "when it is paid"  I mean the date you heave listed to pay.  So if you pay a bill on a future date like let's say 2 weeks from now.  It will post as paid after  that date and you will then be able to download it into Quickbooks.

Re: Capital One bank connect

"When it's paid" is really not my issue, It's more about "How".

After a payroll cycle in Quickbooks it  accrues the Federal and State taxes and then allowes me to not only E-Pay them, but also generated and submits the forms. We have always E-Submitted, I have no idea how to manually submit or who to even mail a check too.

Worse is I'm on vaca for the past week and did payroll right before I left and could not pay the Federal and State, now it's all past due and I return to the US tomorrow and Capital One is still no better then it was. I really think I'm shifting to Wells Fargo. Somebody mentioned earlier that they support Direct Pay still.... So frustrating....

Re: Capital One bank connect

This is how I generally do it.

I generate the reports for the amounts to be paid through Quickbooks and write the checks  listing the check number as EC for E- check.

I then go on the federal and state websites and e-submit them.

When they clear Capital One I import and match them to the ones I wrote.

Wells Fargo does offer Direct Connect but at a cost of 15.00 per month I believe.

Re: Capital One bank connect

Thanks Bob,

I went to the EFTPS and the NYS sites and manually entered the amounts and paid them.

Doing so I remembered that I had to setup the agencies to pull directly from my accounts years ago via QBO "E-Pay" which make me further wonder why "Bill Pay" is even necessary for the Payroll withholdings?  I agree "Bill Pay" is neccessary for paying random people, but the e-filing in this case causes the Federal and State to pull the funds which should work regardles of QBO\Capital Ones interface.

I'm back in NY now, and planning on a lot of yelling tomorrow to both Intuit and Capital One

Thanks again,

Mike

Re: Capital One bank connect

Day one of Yelling:

So I started with Intuit Support and Quickly demanded Tier 2 support who I again explained after disabling "Direct Connect" and enabling "Express Web Connect" with "Capital One - New" my list of problems which include:

  • Account Balances off.
  • Downloading Transactions give duplicates
  • Downloaded Transaction missing Memo Field.
  • Database Error "Invalid Routing code" during Verify and Backup.
  • Inability to Efile\Epay Federal\State Withholdings. (** Workaround See Below)

The Entire issue is to during the Express Web connect enrollment the Routing and Account Numbers that QBO receives from Capital One are inaccurate. After they are greyed out so you can’t' fix them. My Account number is "12345678" and the routing number is some random number.  This then breaks E-Pay so you can pay withholdings and the DB error is actually accurate. Considering it has incorrect routing, I'm actually surprised I get any transactions downloaded!

Tier 2 quickly got Capital One on the line and he explained to them this issue, Then they Admit to having issues with this since October! They also see my multiple calls since late December and have escalated into their developers and there is an engineer working on it with me.

I'm hoping for a fix tomorrow, and will post again!

For anybody else using Payroll I found a workaround for paying the withholdings:

Neither Express Web Connect or the prior Direct Connect is required for E-Pay & E-File, so if you deactivate Capital One and manually reenter your routing and account numbers in Chart of Accounts you can then go back into Payroll Setup and reenable your account for E-Pay.

Remember EFTPS and NYS already have access to our bank accounts so "Bill Pay" is not required, just like intuit has access to pull the payroll checks, but the fact the accounts are enrolled and the Account and Routing # are bad makes the E-File Fail.

For anyone out there who actually use "Bill Pay" i.e. automatically send checks to Vendors\Customers and Random people I think we are out of luck because it seems "Express Web Connect" doesnt support "Bill Pay". So now either use Intuits chargaeble "Bill Pay serice" or use Capital One’s web portal to "Schedule a Payment". Once they fix the Routing #'s and we can Sync again the transaction should come in. Not sure if they come in immediately, or when cleared? or which is the better accounting practice...
