Combine separate bank feeds into one account?

I was having trouble downloading bank feeds from one bank and had to end up creating a duplicate account in quickbooks for each account from that bank in order to download data. Now that I've got two accounts for each, how do I combine? I haven't touched either account since download, so they remain in their original conditions.

Re: Combine separate bank feeds into one account?

Did  you try and Deactivate and then Reactivate the Bank Feed in the original account(s) that you were having problems with?  That usually resolves the issues.  (In theory you shouldn't have to, but I often close QBs and then reopen it before trying to Reactivate the Bank Feed again.)

If you haven't tried that, you might try it with the original accounts and see if everything downloads.  If it does, just delete the new ones you created.

If it doesn't work, and you really want to merge the accounts.  Then try this:

  • Close QBs and go into your QBs Data Folder and COPY the CompanyName.QBW file to the Desktop (just an extra Backup and faster to restore).
  • Open QBs and go into the File Menu then Backup and do a QBs Backup
  • Go to your Chart of Accounts and confirm all the accounts are the same type - Bank in this case (I'm sure they are, but it will not work if they are not).
  • Deactivate the Bank Feed in the the accounts
  • Go to the account you want to go away and Edit the Name to match the other account you want to merge into.  QBs will give you a warning, click Okay.
  • Activate the Bank Feed and test.
  • If you need to reverse this process, the fastest way is to Copy back the CompanyName.QBW file on your desktop back into the Data Folder.  If for some reason that fails, Restore the BU within QBs.

Re: Combine separate bank feeds into one account?

Thanks, I'll give this a try. Both accounts have transactions that haven't been entered so it won't let me deactivate the bank feeds. If I enter all of them on both accounts, and I combine accounts, will any duplicate transactions be duplicated, or will the duplicates be overwritten?   ....Or is this where the backup comes in? lol.

Re: Combine separate bank feeds into one account?

Your advice on deactivating and reactivating worked. Now I'll go in and delete the new accounts. Thanks for your help.

Re: Combine separate bank feeds into one account?

Glad to hear that part of it worked.

So I'm guessing that means you can just Delete the second account.  But if you do have to still combine the accounts, you probably will get duplicates.  Depending upon which account you reconciled, you should be able to spot the duplicates pretty easily.

Other flag that will help is the the one from the Bank Feed sync.  Be sure to confirm that the transaction you want to keep are all the ones that are connected with the Accounts Payable Acct, even if the other transaction has the flag.  Those are the ones QBs is linked to bill payments.  The duplicates should have some other Acct attached to them or will be giving you an error that one is needed.  (Assuming you have that turned on in the QB Preferences, and I recommend you do.)
