Credit Card Parent Account Issue

Hello!

We have a credit card account that has one parent account and two sub-accounts; a credit card for employee M. and employee N.  Originally, when we linked them, there was only one employee (M) and that card account was connected, not a parent account.  Now, trying to connect employee N's card, I cannot.  I am able to connect the parent account, however that essentially has duplicates to M's card, many of the transactions on which 200+ are already reconciled, and I am trying to avoid the work of hunting down the duplicates.  In the chart of accounts I am unable to move the original account (M's card) into the new parent account, I get the message: You can't change the parent of this account to this Credit Card because it or its parent is already set up for Online Banking or Web Connect.

Is there any easy way to merge these accounts without creating a ton of additional work?

Credit Card Parent Account Issue

It's nice to see you here, @Mainst1,

I can share some insights about online banking connection in QuickBooks Online.

If you have multiple cards under one financial institution, you need to know how your bank sends the downloaded transactions before connecting them. QBO will not let you connect both a parent account and its sub-accounts.

If bank transactions needs to be downloaded to the individual accounts, you will need to connect them one at a time. This way, you will see the account balances for each register. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select Connect Account on the landing page, or select Add account or Link account if you've already created an account. This image shows the first time you select the Banking menu.
  3. Find your bank from the list, or use the search bar to look for it.
  4. After filling out all the required information, press Connect.

Another way of connecting an account is through the Chart of Accounts. Here's are the alternative steps to guide you:

  1. Go to Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to connect.
  3. Click the small arrow ▼ icon next to View register from the Action column.
  4. Select Connect bank.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
