Do you mean accessing QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to a new laptop? You can log in to QBSE to another device as long as you have the same credentials.
Otherwise, If you mean transferring QuickBooks Desktop to another laptop or computer, there are two options you can choose from. You can move QuickBooks Desktop using the Migrator Tool or manually reinstall it.
For the US version of QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or newer as a single user, you can use the Migrator Tool to move QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. Make sure to have a USB flash drive and your new computer connected to the internet.
Here's how:
Step 1: On the old computer
- From QuickBooks, go to the File menu.
- Choose Utilities and then select Move QuickBooks to another computer.
- Click I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
- Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.
Step 2: On the new computer
- Insert the USB flash drive.
- Open the flash drive to view the files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
- Enter the password you created, then click Let's go.
- Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish.
If the migrator doesn’t start after selecting and running the file, you may need to update your version of Windows 10.
The second option is to move QuickBooks manually without the migrator tool. Here's how:
- Have your product and license info available.
- Uninstall the existing QuickBooks program before reinstalling it.
- On the new laptop, download the installation files or insert the CD.
- Install QuickBooks Desktop as you normally do.
