Enter opening balance on later time

Hello, we just started to use QuickBooks Premier 2022. We did not enter opening balance for any of our bank and CC account because we were waiting for our statements. Now that we are getting statements we are ready to enter them. When I go to edit the account I want to enter the initial opening balance I get the message that I can change it in the register. I'm not sure exactly how to enter it in the register. Thanks in advance.

Enter opening balance on later time

Hello there, @giannibyte. Let me help you add an opening balance to a connected bank account.

There is a way to enter the opening balance of your bank account after connecting it to QuickBooks by creating a Journal Entry using the correct date and amount you want to see in the Begin Reconciliation window.

Here's how:

  1. Choose Make General Journal Entries from the Company menu.
  2. Change the date to the correct beginning balance statement date.
  3. Select the account from the Account drop-down on the first line.
  4. In the Debit column, enter the right opening balance.
  5. Choose Opening Balance Equity on the second line.
  6. Click the Save option.

Then, you can do a mini-reconciliation to correct the Beginning Balance in the Begin Reconciliation window. Refer to this article for the detailed steps: Fix beginning balance issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm also adding this article as your guide when you encounter issues in reconciling: Fix reconciliation issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if I can be of more help in adding an opening balance in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm always here to help.
