a reconcile just verifies that the checks that have been presented to the bank and those in QB match

I had to go to each transaction and put it under "Interest Income" head of account instead of the Bank Account account. and then after that I did the reconcile process again and it now the dashboard display is the same.
It looks like you've changed the categorization of your transactions, Raza1. I'd like to ease your confusion.
Changing the transaction's categorization will not affect the figure on the dashboard. Unless you've transferred them from one bank account to another.
