Find Match vs auto match. Banking not auto matching but finds transaction if I click on "find match". Why not automatically then?

I've gone through a few posts here but didn't find one that actually answered this problem.

When I download my bank transactions, sometimes it doesn't auto match. When I click on the individual transaction in the banking section, the default button at the top is set to "add". When I change that to "find match" it immediately finds the correct match. Why isn't it automatically finding the correct match instead of me manually having to click on "find match" for each of the transactions?

Thanks!

Manish

Find Match vs auto match. Banking not auto matching but finds transaction if I click on "find match". Why not automatically then?

Hello there, Manish.

QuickBooks Online looks at the transaction date and attempts to match transactions within 90 days of the transaction date. However, if you have lots of transaction with the same information, then it won't be automatically matched. In this case, you can use Bank Rules to help you identify which transaction should be matched.

Here's how to create a bank rule:

  1. In the left navigation panel, click Banking, and select Rules.
  2. Click on the New Rule button.
  3. Enter a name in the Rule name field.
  4. In the For drop-down, select Money in or Money out.
  5. In the In drop-down, select the bank or credit account.
  6. Set rule conditions, specifying whether the transaction must meet All or Any of the conditions. You can add up to five lines.
  7. In the Conditions fields, specify whether the rule applies to Bank text, Description, or Amount, and identify the content the transaction Contains, Doesn't contain, or Is exactly for the rule to apply.
  8. Select settings for the rule, specifically the Transaction type, Payee and the Category to apply.
  9. Click Save.

The problem is I don't have a lot of transactions with the same amount. In fact, when I click on the transaction in "banking" and switch to "find match", it immediately finds it. Then why can't it find in the first place? This only happens to one bank account data which I'm loading via excel.

Good day, Mani1980.

When bank transactions are downloaded, our system analyzes the data, then suggests a match. As what my colleague @Joyce_P said, it will attempt to match transactions within 90 days of the transaction date in QuickBooks Online. If it's created outside the 90 day period, you'll have to manually find the match.

You can check this article for more information: Add and match downloaded banking transactions.
