Having trouble importing transactions going back to 2019. Any ideas?

Hi there, @wendy-mcsteenrea.

I've got your back on this query about importing your bank transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

Let’s review the file format of the CSV file and then make sure there are no special characters in the bank description. Ensure the Date, Description, and Amount columns on the CSV file match the columns and order in QBSE.

Here are certain factors we'll have to consider:

  • 0's are not allowed anywhere in the file, e.g $0 should be left blank
  • $ symbols are not allowed, e.g $234 should be 234
  • Commas for thousands are not allowed, e.g 2,111 should be 2111
  • Other special characters such as #, %, and & are not allowed.
  • Correct any transactions with the amount showing in the description column
  • Remove the word “amount" if it appears in the credit or debit column, i.e. credit amount, debit amount
  • Correct and standardize the date format to a single format i.e. dd/mm/yyyy.
  • MAC users must save the file as a Windows CSV file

I'm also adding these articles about importing transactions in QBSE:

Please keep me posted on the results. I want to make sure this is taken care of.

Having trouble importing transactions going back to 2019. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. Why was QBs able to download a whole year for 2018 at the end of 2018? I just started my taxes a couple days ago. I got the first 6 months (NOT 90 days) of 2019 but can't find the rest even tho when I do a custom date search for the rest of the year, the system says it has it. I cannot find these transactions anywhere. I tried using a CSV file. I am not an Xcel expert. The CSV file includes both credit and debit in one column. Your system wants me to choose either/or. This is a big hassle and I wish I'd just prepared to do my taxes the old-fashioned way. I am using my whole weekend and getting nothing accomplished. Going back/forth in this forum is more than frustrating.

Let me walk you through on how we can fix this, outlier53.

I do appreciate that you've manually imported your transactions as an alternative way of getting older ones. QuickBooks Self-Employed downloads the 30 to 90 days of transactions when you first connect your banks and credit cards. It also depends on the bank on what period the transactions are being downloaded.

We can refresh the bank accounts to see if it downloads. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Bank accounts.
  2. Make sure that the account is turned on.
  3. Click Refresh all
  4. Go back to the Transactions page to see if the missing transactions are already there.

If you get the same thing, you can contact your bank to allow your QuickBooks Self-Employed account to download older transactions from 2019. Aside from that, let's ensure that the columns upon importing the CSV file, match the columns in QuickBooks as shared by my colleague.
