How can I reconnect a reactivated checking account to the bank?

While making some accounts inactive, I accidently deactivated our checking account. I reactivated the account but now it won't connect to the bank to download transactions.

How can I reconnect a reactivated checking account to the bank?

Hi there, @mldo. I’m here to help you reestablish your bank connection. Let me share some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Beforehand, can you provide the name of your financial institution? Did you encounter any errors when reconnecting it? You may have too much accumulated historical data causing this unusual behavior. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.

First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

Once signed in, go back to the Banking page and connect your bank account. If it works, I recommend clearing your browser's cache so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.

Meanwhile, you'll want to download your transactions from your internet banking website into a CSV file. Then, upload it to QBO.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have follow-up questions about banking feeds. I'd be happy to help. Wishing you and your business continued success.

How can I reconnect a reactivated checking account to the bank?

These suggestions did not solve the problem.

The bank is F&M Bank of Central California. There is a connection between QuickBooks and the bank. Payroll is able to debit the checking account to make direct deposits of paychecks. The savings account is linked and able to download transactions, but the checking account won't link up.

We're glad to have you back in this thread, mldo. I'll share additional information to help you fix your bank connectivity.

If you've accidentally deleted the bank account from the Chart of Accounts, this still remains connected in the bank feeds. Thus, it only removes the account from the Banking page but still leaves the bank connected in the background. However, this will appear as not connected to QBO.

To assist you in disconnecting your QBO, I'd recommend contacting your financial institution. Then, we can reconnect your bank to the program.

Moreover, I'm adding this link to guide you in reviewing these transactions and placing them in the correct accounts: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. It also includes steps on how to match and exclude duplicate transactions.

Keep us updated if you need additional assistance with bank connectivity. We'll be delighted to hear more from you. Take care and have a good one!

The bank representative said they don't work with QuickBooks, so they can't do anything from their end.

How can I reconnect a reactivated checking account to the bank?

Hi mldo-frontiernet,

I can't find a result for F&M Bank for California when I searched for it using my test account. This is the reason why you can't connect your account. Your bank no longer provides online banking service for QuickBooks.

Payroll debits or direct deposit works differently, and it's not the basis whether or not an account can be connected to QuickBooks for online banking.

Your option now is to manually upload your transactions. Learn more about uploading transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to reach back out if you have more questions about online banking. We're just here to continue to help.
